He just strikes me as the kind of fighter that is so good he just doesnt have to turn up and fight his A game to beat a guy and apart from perhaps dawson catching him with something special there really was nothing of any threat that would of suggested joe would be in danger of not getting to 50-52 straight wins.

Remember hearing the chant at the hatton-mayweather weigh in aimed at bernard hopkins of "You`ll never beat calzaghe, you`ll never beat calzaghe" and it actually now seems pretty apt to be honest.

top 5 p4p all time greatest champions?? a good possibility
greatest ever british sportsmen?? id probably have him ahead of the likes of moore, charlton, botham etc!
    Joke?

and it's "would've" or "would have" not "would of".

"would of" doesn't make any sense.

Calzaghe lost twice. To Reid and Hopkins. Both fights at least warranted a rematch. Hatton is going to get jealous the way your sucking Calzaghe's dikk.

Well, prove me wrong because until you do, I know im right, Joe didnt faulter at all during that fight, he did take some big shots, nice clean shots as well and just shrugged them off to keep on working

Unless you can post a clip of him being "hurt" in the Kessler fight, shut up

Is it possible to "clean out a division" in two fights? Last I heard, the only people fought at LHW was Hopkins (which he nearly lost) and Jones (a shadow of his former self). He decided that he didn't want to bother trying to clean out LHW. He won the lineal championship, but he didn't clean out squat.

I think Calzaghe could have matched or even beat the great Marciano's record if he continued, but like someone stated on here apart from the Dawson fight the other fights would have just been made up really would'nt there. For me Calzaghe could have got to 50-0.He has great arsenal at his natural will.He has relently desire and stamima and a great great work rate, great hand speed and a great chin"The best chin i've seen in all my years of watching boxing!"Yeah he could have beat the record, but like Calzaghe said himself a few months back that he does'nt aim to beat Marciano's as Marciano is and will still be a legend and he want to respect that!Nice words for Calzaghe

I miss Calzaghe already.Im watching his fights on dvd recently and he's such a class act to watch, very skillfull!Great technician of the ring!!!!

You probably don't even own the fight, yet your talking trash, go to the file board, download the fight and watch yourself. If you can't do that then go fuck yourself. Calzaghe was hurt a few times in that fight.

He would have lost eventually because his pace/workrate was his main weapon that won him a lot of fights and that inevitably declines with age.

Lose 20% of your commitment and he might not be as super fit stamina wise as he usually was and could find himself on the wrong side of a decision. But I dont think a top form Calzaghe loses to anyone currently around no, he just racks up too many points.

I think he quit at the right time. I think the fact he got put on his ass in the 1st round of his last 2 fights was a wake up call. Maybe showed a bit of complacency on his part. Maybe wasnt absolutely 100% focused on fighting. Maybe his skills/speed were starting to decline.

And fwiw I believe only those with the heaviest Hopkins/Reid tinted glasses could say he lost those fights. Hopkins draw at best and Reid took too many rounds off to get a points decision.

I think the knockdowns were largely because he doesn't spar.

Way to stroke his " Ego ". I guess im the only one that thinks Calzaghes chin sucks. I agree he was hurt in the Kessler fight, and we all remember an old Roy Jones almost TKO him in the first round. He lost to Hopkins in my opinion(who also drop him). It's insane that you would put him in your top 5 all-time. But then again your from Englad :P. Calzaghe is not a class act btw, if he was he would rematch Hopkins, and would of not disrespected Roy the way he did. If it was prime Jones i wear calzaghe would not make it past the 5th.

    *Edit*

Oh I forgot to mention im not a big fan of the slaps. You talk about how all hopkins wanted to do was hold and moan. What about Calzaghe he did not want to fight etheir he was slapping the whole fight. Hopkins counter him and won the fight with more effective punching.....

Right, for all the people who are saying that Joe got hurt could you post up the whole round of the fights that he got hurt in and we will see how hurt he was

If no one does then thats because they know he wasnt hurt

Who knows whether or not he would of been beaten. I think everybody agrees there were fights that could of happened that didnt and a couple of fights that happened too late to actually properly count.

But my problem with trying to picture some of these fights happening is Calzaghes gift of being able to work out alternative game plans while in the middle of a fight.

Theres also other things id like to take into account.

1 his chin, hes no different than anybody else in being able to be knocked down with a flash shot, but the way he recovers in a matter of seconds needs to be respected, by the time hes took his count its like he was never hit and it also seems to make him better for the rest of the round. This needs to be taken into consideration.

    2. His power, I believe it to be a little underestemated, taking in comments by previous opponants who were calling him a slapper before the fight then noting their suprise at his power after the fights shows me hes stronger puncher than he gets credit for, And even more so before his hands and wrists gave up on him he was seen as a capable knockout boxer.

    3. His boxing skills, unparelleled as far as im concered. he scores enough to out box anybody out there now, in the early 2000's and in the late 90's.

So really what would it take to beat him? a boxing genius with huge punch rates, massive knockout power, immense stamina and an iron chin of thier own.

Who fits that bill? No 1 that comes to mind for me. A prime Jones jr is the closest I get.
