Boxing gloves makes a punch impact less and it's the accumulation of these punches that contributes to this fatal injuries. While in MMA, usually when a fighter gets KD (mostly flash KD's) expect the referee to quickly jump between them as the guy on top connects a couple of more blows. there isn't really much 'accumulation' in MMA.
An empty can is always noisy.

The only thing now that is more dangerous is that athletes are much better athletes now then the past. Every other precaution is made so that the sport is much safer now.

Try to watch some ESPN classic fights and you'll see how a lot more brutal and meaner the sport of boxing was before. You'll rarely (or never) see the referee stops the fight early. That's the scariest part as I've been the type of fan where I scream to the TV screeen whenever I see a fighter getting unnecessary punishments and the referee is just staring blanks like my old man does. I hate that.
done that many times. I've been at fights and done that

agreed. Fights my first appear more brutal and more street fight like but they do get stopped much more quickly than boxing. Also keep in mind the whole body is a target and not just the head and torso.
