I wouldnt say Jermaine Taylor was a flop but the Trainer/Fighter relationship between Manny and Taylor didnt work out and Taylor seemed to regress while Manny was his trainer.

90% of Taylor's successes came while he was not trained by Manny...

Did he win trainer of the year? I'm pretty sure he did but I don't know.

But in between all that success seems to be many failures of fighters who switched to be trained by him only to become worse fighters.

    Fighters like

Panchito Bojado who came a cropper against Leija when Floyd Mayweather couldn't train him for the fight.

Lamon brewster, looked terrible against Meehan and lost to Lyakovich and then Wladimer

Paulie Malignaggi, after the Cotto fight he left his trainer for Buddy. But never seemed to have the flash, or style that got him to that point and after winning the title looked absolute crap in his defenses, getting hit often, and against Ndou, someone he dominated prior, came up with a split decision win and was then beaten by Hatton.

Joel Casamayor. switches trainers after defeating Chico Corrales, gets McGirt and then loses to Corrales in the rematch, getting hit a lot more and not looking nearly as effective.

    Joel Julio against Carlos Quintanna

So far the only true successes I see on Buddy's record as a trainer are Tarver beating Roy Jones Jr, and Gatti's career lasting 3 years longer.

But in your opinions is Buddy McGirt one of boxings most overrated trainers?
He's way overated just like Emanuel Steward.

I kinda feel for the guy, there are a lot of times that i listen in and he gives great advice just to have his guy go in a repeat the same thing he did last round. I wouldn't say he's overrated cause he doesn't fight the fights i'd say it's more of a problem of communicating that he's lost over the years somehow.

    Buddy McGirt is overrated.

If I see a title fight on TV, and Mcgirt is in one of their corners then I figure that guy is probably going to lose. No joke.

He's too low key and looks like he's taking a nap during rounds and is only woken up when the fighter goes back to his corner.

Least he does care about his fighters though and is not afraid to throw in the towell to save them.

I think he is overrated as a trainer. The mark of a good trainer is having a fighter start from the ground up and all the way to a world championship. There are few trainers in this sport who have done that because most are usually taking over for someone elses work. Manny Steward is in noway overrated because he had Tommy Hearns since the amateurs and made him into an all time great. And brought alot of fighters out of the Kronk to world titles and polished Lennox Lewis into a great heavyweight champion. Buddy Mcgirt needs to give better advice then you got do something baby or I'm gonna stop the fight type advice and the same goes for the overrated Ronnie Shields who I cannot stand as a trainer worse then Buddy. I remember the Tyson vs Lewis fight and his advice to Tyson was hey Mike you got to start throwing punches.
