Rees was an avarege boxer who enzo made world champ if only briefly. Ive never rated macceroni and the fact he even won the WBU title is a shock.

As for Pryce in this day and age with 60,000,000 world titles to aim for what the fucks his promoter doing having him make 7 defences of the commonwealth belt? He should have been at world title level fights ago.

    Ha ha!! Yeah!!

    I remember that too!!

He was too busy making sure he was hydrated to slap, shout or wave his arms about to Joe

His sons most high profile fight and after having 3 minutes to take a drink, he decides to do it in the 1 minute break Joe gets when he needs his "advice"

Wow. i'm a little surprised. I thought that Enzo did I really great job with Joe in the BHop fight. To be honest, I thought Joe was ahead by the end of 10. I was thinking Joe was gonna box him and get the points, but lo and behold he gets to his corner and Enzo's screaming at him to throw more punches and win convincingly!

Joe did what pops said and imho realllly outworked BHop in the champ rounds and that was what made the difference. I wish I'd seen the Maccaroni fight. Maybe Enzo is nuts, but he had a better understanding on how the fight was in the ballasts against BHop than I did! I give Enzo credit, we all know British fighters just aren't as good as American ones. j/k

I think Joe made his dad but then that's the same with all trainers, what would Manny Stewart's career have looked like if Thomas Hearns hadn't made him a nationally known figure. I don't think that one guy is better than another, it's just that one of them gets a few wins and is then flavour of the month like Nazim Richardson is now. He'll get better quality fighters that come to him now because of recent success but eventually a couple of losses will dull his star and some new guy ( or retread trainer) will be the new star. Floyd Mayweather's uncle Roger looks like a top trainer but I watched one of his prospects (can't remember who) on an undercard fighting with the Floyd style and he got sparked. So maybe that Mayweather defence comes down to the natural ability of the fighter and not the guy teaching it.

Yeah dads who have sucessful sons think they are good trainers but they never get the best out of anyone else.

Enzo is a prime example. I just though Joe was an exceptional talent and Enzo happend to be his dad . If Joe went to America and got a world class trainer who knows how good he coud have been. Personally I think we'd be talking about one of the greatest ever .

Enzo is a great trainer, great dad, and his son Joe is the living proof of that. 'Got nothing bad to say about him.

Enzo Calzaghe is a decent trainer.

He didn't make the fighter Joe Calzaghe is though, Calzaghe is just a naturally talented guy.

Agree with that, never rated Roger as a trainer or in the corner. His advice is usually either really mysterious like 'Yeah, keep knocking the dust off that ass!' or things that are just way too obvious to help. ''Keep doin what you doin!''

I thought Floyd Sr was much better as a trainer.

I remember being really surprised at Enzo winning trainer of the year in The Ring magazine a few years ago. He's a loon who, like many have said, just got his name through his sons success and got some nice easy breaks for his other fighters with Frank Warrens influence. He's another one that usually spouts useless information in between rounds.

I think he's a far better fitness coach than he is a trainer because everything I ever seem to hear about him is 'how hard he trains his fighters' or 'how many flights of stairs he makes us run'. I'm not sure of his merits strategically but luckily for Joe, one of his positives was his ability to adapt in the middle of fights

A few years ago I talked with friends about how the Calzaghe camp was all about workrate and fitness. Maybe they lack the drive since Joe is gone. Must be pretty good to have a 10yr world champ in rundown shack in the Valley. They must have taken so much motivation from that.

So the boxers arnt very good to being with. Dont matter cos they work there arses off in the ring and win the way Joe C does it alot of the time. Just pure workrate.Enzo looked nackered in the first few rounds,Pryce i think was just cocky IMO he could have boxed to the decision but he went for a KO, and Rees just threw and threw and threw punches, got him a world title and he gave such an effort with kotelnik.

Maybe Enzo C has forgotten what got his fighters in there previous positions or the loss of Joe C has drained whatever gave them the motivation before.

I don't think Enzo Calzaghe is a bad trainer though.
