I, like other fellow Mexicans, lost respect for him when he called Erik Morales an uneducated filthy little indian and then sucker punched him @ the press conference. He thinks he's a high class Mexican or something. If anything, he's just as much a little indian or more so than Morales. He has no law degree, left Golden Boy, and has been beaten bad lately. Anyway, his comments arent & shouldnt be that much of importance, he doesnt represent all Mexicans, maybe those from Mexico City, D.F. but not all the country.

It's interesting to read the opinions of a Mexican with regards to Barrera and Morales. Not knowing the full history behind their feud, I've always sympathized more with Barrera, 'cause I saw after one of their fights where Barrera tried a friendly gesture and instead got rebuffed rudely by Morales. But again, I don't know the full history. Aside from that, I've always viewed Barrera as classy in and out of the ring, and he won my everlasting appreciation when he bullied and humiliated the HATED Nassem Hamed, much to my delight. The times I've seen Morales speak, he seems full of anger and hate. Again... perception.

Maybe Morales should have stopped calling him a fag and he wouldn't have got smacked in the mouth.

Did you approve of him bitch slapping Kennedy Mckinney?

Kinda patronising speaking on 'behalf of all Mexicans' when you're a Brit, Game. I've always preferred Barrera to Morales, he always seemed the more decent guy to me, thought he won all 3 fights, & loved when he won the decider after Morales threw the bottle at him after he'd talked shit in the build-up. Still, I'm not from the country and don't know the ins & outs of how they feel about him there. It certainly seems true that he is less beloved in his homeland than other (possibly inferior) fighters, and there must be a reason for this.

jeees, GAME is doing his MAB thing

The sheer weirdness of countries. Look at the fights he gave people and the lack of respect (by some he's given).

Not had to work up from the gutter like 'other' Mexican fighters. Why did Oscar play down his somewhat more middleclass roots in favour of acting more blue collar? He was hated enough for beating Chavez.

I've never fallen in to the working class hero myth here or in other countries. It smacks of ignorance and a glorification of the gutter. Yeah being poor is so great.

I agree, I think its just the adversity gives the average person (particularly in a country like Mexico) something they can identify with. I think MAB is the greater fighter, but I don't speak for the people of Mexico. One thing I do find strange is how they go on about Kelly Pavlik's 'working class hero' roots as if all other boxers are raised in Bel-Air or Hampstead. Particularly when he was up against Hopkins they kept going on about it, & I thought where would you rather grow up, Youngstown, which is economically depressed, but a seemingly together little town, or the ghettos of Philladelphia, which are the crime & murder capitals of the US? Hmmmm...

An upper-class individual wouldnt have to take on boxing as a career, so yes, most boxers do come up from living in tough neighborhoods barrios and ghettos. Even Barrera didnt grow up wealthy, he's had to earn it through boxing.

    and

"It is now being said that in Mexico there will be support so that Margarito does not lose his relevance and continues fighting. I think the boxing commissions should join in supporting the punishment given in California, since in Mexico they are not as strict, and a serious incident could occur if his (Margarito's) wrongful deed is repeated."

A little rough around the edges (the translation), but that's the main jist. So basically, it's not only bitter Cotto fans that support Margarito getting suspended from boxing. Barrera's always been one of my favorite Mexican fighters (especially after he humiliated Naseem Hamed), and I've always viewed him as a classy, no-nonsense, dedicated fighter. If he says that about a fellow Mexican fighter, to me is carries some weight.
That's funny coming from Barrera who is one of the dirtiest Mexican fighters out there.. and a sore loser.

This guy has sucker punched his foes during press conferences, deliberately hit pacman long after the bell, threw intentional headbutts etc... barrera needs to stfu

And we all know that you can get away with murder in Mexican boxing... so many tragedies and accidents.
