I never thought of it that way. That would be quite the diabolical plan wouldn't it?

    stop this crap!!!
    hey guys,
the outcome of this fight has been fixed!!!
    de la hoya will lose.
he decided that he wil lose. hes part of it.
because hes more of a businessman than a boxer
they'll give us probably 10 rounds of staring and useless jabbing...
    remember the hopkins fight?
they never really punched each other! and
the fake knockdown? where oscar was 'grimacing in pain'?
ya i know, oscar must win an oscar..
    hes one great actor...
then after the hopkins fight he said he's very sure he'll retire now...
then he comesback for a title fight...
against an underachiever so theres a bigger chance for him to be a champ once again...
see, its all scheduled and planned when oscar is involved...
    he is too clever!!!
now these issues of the sr. and jr. thing is just a part of it
actually a major part of it
see, senior is doing the talking..
    its for promotion!!!

PBF is successful because he is physically gifted with speed, and he's been boxing his whole life. He didn't get to be successful from some super training regiment from his father or uncle.

ODH will win this fight because he is the bigger stronger man, and his speed is good enough to catch PBF. He can hurt PBF, and PBF can't hurt him. Bottom line. There's no magical formula or trick that Mayweather has to beat PBF. PBF is overmatched in this fight, just like ODH was with Hopkins.

    Fantastic!

Took the words right outta my mouf!

Oscar is what will beat Lil Floyd...not Floyd Sr.

what oscar have you been looking at..the one that lost to sturm, hop, mosely twice? or the one beat up the tito leftovers in vargas and mayorga...because either one them would be beaten by floyd...meaning either version of oscar would be beaten by floyd because it would be at ww not jmw....

Mosley, Hopkins, and Sturm are all bigger and or stronger than ODH. PBF isn't, and he is fighting someone that is bigger, stronger, and fast enough to land punches on him. PBF is the smaller man here. He is overmatched period. Doesn't matter if he fights a great fight, eventually ODH will get him. Just like ODH with BHOP. It was just a matter of time.

And people saying that Hopkins wasn't hitting ODH? He was starting to land that straight right and you could see ODH was feeling it. He was just to big and strong.

Don't know about all the conspiracy theories, but who didn't see this sh@% coming really? If trainers won fights for the fighters than Gatti would have beat Floyd. Floyd Sr. is full of himself and he forgets his brother is a pretty good trainer too, his son definitely thinks so. I'm on board for father against son, brother against brother. Current P4P king vs aging perennial P4P king no fixing involved. How about that. The fight has enough interest and melodrama without a bunch of crackpot theories making more. Just for the record I think Floyd wins a Split decision on Oscar whom he will outbox.

This article is designed purely to crank up the hype machine.

When you read a story like this with quotes, it's an indication that the fight is as good as made.

In my personal opinion, Floyd Snr will be nothing but a highly-paid spectator in this...

...plus he'll get a little extra pay in his packet for helping promote the fight with quotes like this one.

Back to the fight: The only common opponent is Arturo Gatti - who i believe ODH stopped quicker (unless i'm mistaken) in round 5 as opposed to Rd 6 for Floyd. That stoppage was at welter where Gatti was bigger and younger.

I think that based on history alone, that De La Hoya will KO floyd once he lands that honey-punch hook. He is a big man now and has been fighting bigger men for years.

Wheras Floyd has only fought twice at 147 against Sharmba Mitchell and Zab Judah - neither of whom are exactly Bernard Hopkins.

That said, my opinion is based on history only - Floyd could have enough tricks up his sleeve to pull off a points win - but no way would he stop De La Hoya (that we can all agree on).

Floyds chances increase with every pound lost under 154 too i add.

    GATTI V HOYA:

Mosely moved up to fight delahoya both times that they fought...first from 135 to 147 then 147 to 154 so he (oscar) the bigger man in both losses....and when was the last time that oscar beat a real A-rated fighter?

Yeah Oscar looked good against a wide swinging bar fighter who'd been on a long layoff himself and got ruined by tito...but let's not get carried away...floyd's defense is far superior to shane mosely's and oscar couldn't land a flush punch on him and that was when oscar was much faster...oscar's only chance is if this fight takes place at 154...that'll be more so due to pbf thinking that gaining weight means you punch harder which cause him to stay still long enough to get hit...at 147 floyd moves around all night and will out point delahoya..because floyd is not stupid and knows that oscar can hurt him...pbf has never been arrogant in the ring....he concedes the other fighters advantages much like he did against chico...understanding that chico could hurt him he moved all night..the same thing he will do against oscar..

For every member on this forum who has ever had a loser father Floyd Jr will join us. His father is a deadbeat and if I was PBF I would ignore his existense.

Mosely may be smaller, but he is stronger than ODH and definitely PBF. Also Mosley has a great chin. ODH landed MANY solid punches on Mosley. Mosley just landed more and took them well. The bottom line is ODH can hurt PBF, and PBF can't hurt ODH. Plus ODH isn't a stalking wide swinging brawler. He is a technically sound boxer with good speed and power. PBF hasn't faced anyone with good skills AND who is bigger and stronger. And because of that he won't be able to outrun ODH all night, and avoid getting hit. Eventually he is going to take some punches, and ODH hits harder than Zab. If ODH is in shape, he will win the fight.

how can you say that shane has a great chin and floyd doesn't? and by what theory do you say that oscar hits hard enough to drop pbf...esp giving the fact pbf has never been dropped, and can take it on the chin....i sometimes wonder where this notion that young great fighters that dominate can't take a punch...it was a given that gatti would ko pbf had he landed, but he didn't...it was a given that chico would ko pbf had he landed but he didn't...and being that oscar has one of the most accurate right hands in the history of the sport i seriously doubt that roger & floyd would overlook this tremendous weapon that oscar has...trust me floyd won't stay still long enough to be hit and oscar won't have has much power after 6 or eight rounds of chasing and eating..he'll tire just enough for floyd to bicycle his way to a UD or late stoppage...

so who hits harder, OLDH or Vernon forrest?

For some reason the Oscar fans on this site think that a De La Hoya Vs PBF fight will be similiar to the Mayorga fight and that PBF is going to stand there and trade with Oscar!!!!!!! Wrong. PBF will not be there to hit like Mayorga, and instead of looking for one big blow he will pelt Oscar with shot after shot all night long. If you want an example watch the Whitaker Vs De La Hoya fight where Oscar could not find Pernell all night long. Picture that but with alot more offense from his opponent. Another thing is that Oscar's greatest victories came against Mayorga and Vargas, two fighters that were beaten half to death against Trinidad and both showed signs of slowing down before they lost to Oscar. Now this great punching power I hear about Oscar did not work against

Trinidad- who he hit with his best shot's and could not finish nor wobble
Mosley 1 and 2- Mosley was never in trouble of being knocked out and almost knocked Oscar out in the 9th round of the second fight.
Hopkins- Could not even come close to hurting
    Sturm- Never Hurt
    Whitaker- Never could hit him
Quartey- Had him in trouble in the 12th and hit him with his best shots wide open and could not finish him (judges robbed quartey)

These are the fighters that he faced at their peak's and never showed signs of slowing down yet his punching power was not a factor, so what's this myth about his punching power. Floyd would have beaten Oscar in his prime yet alone now.

    excellent post but...

i don't think PBF would of beaten Mosely at 147 six years ago and probably wouldn't today. Mosely jumped straight from lightweight to welter carrying his timing, speed, power and combinations into the 1st Oscar fight at 147. It was a very close fight and I don't believe Floyd would of faired any better than Oscar infact I think he would of done worse. You really think lil'Floyd would of actually done better in any of those fights?

    Floyd v Trinidad (undeafeted 1999 version) 147lb
    Floyd v Mosely (undefeated 2000 version) 147lb
Floyd v Hopkins (undisputed MW Champ) 160lb
Floyd v Sturm (undefeated MW Champ) 160lb
    Floyd v Whitaker (40-1 WBC Champ) 147lb
    Floyd v Quartley (34-0 WBA Champ) 147lb

Floyd has only fought 2 fights at 147lb against 2 very good 140lb boxers that have both previously been destroyed in the ring physically and mentally in a lower division! PBF has shown me nothing at 147lb to convince me he could win any of the above fights when Oscar fought them. I suppose you think Floyd could of destroyed Mayorga at 154lb like Oscar did too?

I' am 100% sure Oscar could beat PBF at 147 but I got a gut feeling he will lose the decision and you watch the controversy after the fight.

What you told us was a little more sensational than that ... you said that he said that he had programmed a flaw into PBF's style, that it was hidden and no one knew about it but him, and it was lying there waiting for him to exploit like a secret weapon. What daddy says here is a bit more credible than that.

not that i doubt you one little bit.

I really like what Sr said - i taught him everything he knows, but i didn't teach him everything i know. That's a great line, just great!
