not sure when collins said he wanted to fight him i remember him saying he would fight in RJJ backyard tho
had a look cant find the interview on the net, i remember posting the details on here abt a yr ago tho![]()
Whether or not Roy Jones Jr avoided Steve Collins is irrelvant, i think we can all agree he would of whooped Steve Collins like a red headed step child. His style was made for Roy Jones Jr, i still don't think Roy Jones Jr's record is as bad as some people make out when you actually break it down.
There actions?? How about RJJ actions? What a fucking stupid excuse he wasnt prepared to leave the States because of the Olympics, well that just shows what sort of champion he is, european fighters are seen as bums for not travelling but the American fighters dont travel and its ok? Please, he got screwed in the fucking Olympics in 1988 for the gold medal so that gives him an excuse no to travel?? Imagine that was the excuse someone like Calzaghe or Benn or Eubank used, my god we would never here the end of it, but because hes from America its ok??
Thats not how it works my friend, America 80% of the time is where the fights are but not always, and RJJ missed out on some big fightes between 1995-2002, but obviously all the other guys fault nothing to do with Roy, no cant be RJJ fault , the man cant do no wrong. Like i said previously RJJ was a nightmare to negotiate with just ask Clinton woods![]()
Even with all that being said, clinton woods still fought him for the his biggest payday and got stopped by a nowhere near prime version of jones. the mid nineties jones had all the bargaining power over eubank, collins,DM,JC, and benn... and after the so called being difficult to bargain with talk, clinton woods actually wanted a rematch...

Richard Hall was a Nigel Benn clone complete with the "Destroyer" nickname and dread lock hair do.
Benn was surly faster and more skilled than Hall. But Hall had every bit the heard of Benn, and I see Benn goin for broke and getting stopped earlier than Hall did. Hall just took an incredible beating for 11 rounds.
Most dominant performance of Roy's career was the Hall fight.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
Not seeing the transition really...hairstyle and nickname aside,Up to then Halls biggest win was over punch prone Gary Ballard and he had been knocked out by former tough-guy contetant and zero defense Rocky Gannon as well.Benn was on a world class level and proven against extreme adversity,Hall may have taken a helluva beating but Benn brought much, much more in the way of an offensive threat to Jones.
I just dont see how a prime benn would be able to cope with a prime jones.
Jones wasnt just a great fighter back then...he was the absoloute MAN. there wasnt a p4p list because it was accepted throughout the world that jones was by an absoloute mile the best fighter from every division.
Benn would of walked on to so many shots i genuinely believe even with benns rock solid chin it wouldnt of gone beyond 6!!
one dangerous horrible bloke
I said Benn was much more skilled and faster. I have his career set, I like the guy a lot.
BUT Hall had real power, and a lot of knock outs. He also challenged for the world title a couple times in his career. As well as having a great come from behind win over the late Julian Letterlough.
He was naturally bigger and a fair bit taller than Benn as well, seeing as he fought at 175 and Nigel fought between 160-168 his whole career.
Both were aggressive power punchers with less than great defense. Although Benn had better head movement no doubt.
Benn would come at Roy Jones in a similiar fashion that Hall did.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
By the time Benn fought Eubanks the 2nd time he had grown at the weight and was at his best because he was relaxed and had good head movement. Eubanks could not handle this version of Benn and Jones would have had trouble, remember what he did to McClellan. After that fight he was finished, that took everything out of him.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
I actually just went back over some clips of Roy versus Hall, that was a hell of a performance. It wasn't so much that Roy lost speed though he lost some, he lost his legs.
Second thing I noticed is LOL at the Roy fanboys that were upset with Calzaghe taunting him, barely thirty seconds had gone by in the first round before Roy started taunting Hall.
You know what, as roy supporter since 88' I thought it was quite funny that Joe was taunting him...showed that he should have gotten his ass out of the sport after he beat ruiz..and ironically he's always feared ending up with pugilistic dementia but if he doesn't hang the gloves up, he will have it...such a dumbass...it pisses me off everytime he fights.
