Default Fights That Shouldn't Of Won FOTY.

Larry Holmes vs Ken Norton 1978
Marvin Johnson vs Matthew Saad Muhammad 1 1979
Lee Roy Murphy vs Chisanda Mutti 1985
Evander Holyfield vs Dwight Muhammad Qawi 1 1986
Kevin Kelley vs Troy Dorsey 1992
Leonard Dorin vs Raul Babi 1 2002
James Toney vs Vassiliy Jirov 2003
Juan Manuel Marquez vs Manny Pacquiao 2004

These are the fights that should of won IMO, the ones that did win are.

Leon Spinks vs Muhamamd Ali 1978
Danny Lopez vs Mike Ayala 1979
Thomas Hearns vs Marvin Hagler 1985
Barry McGuigan vs Steve Cruz 1986
Riddick Bowe vs Evander Holyfield 1 1992
Micky Ward vs Arturo Gatti 1 2002
Arturo Gatti vs Micky Ward 3 2003
Marco Antonio Barrera vs Erik Morales 2004

This is sure to be controversial but lets see what your opinions are.

Saw Holyfield vs Tyson yesterday and thought it wasent that good. I thought Holyfield vs Quawi was so good it was best cruiser fights of the 80's and a great fight? Anyone ever seen it?

Well i can't remember all the fights in 1996, but didn't Arturo Gatti have a good war in 1996 ? it probably was better than Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield 1, which is probably one of the weakest FOTY's.

Yes i've seen Evander Holyfield vs Dwight Muhammad Qawi 1, a great fight and better than i expected it too be when i watched it about 2 years ago.

Its probably the top 3 best Cruiserweight fight of all time. Only James Toney vs Vassiliy Jirov, and Lee Roy Murphy vs Chisanda Mutti are maybe better fights regarding the best Cruiserweight fights.

I agree on Holmes/Norton, Holyfield/Qawi & Toney/Jirov, however, I think they made the right choices in all the other ones.

Nah disagree Matthew Saad Muhamamd vs Marvin Johnson 1, was a brawl to end all brawls. And it had a dramatic finish and was pretty even all the way.

And you had no idea who was going to win, Danny Lopez vs Mike Ayala was one sided in the later rounds. Especially when the fight should of been over because Mike Ayala was actually KO'ed twice.

Im not sure if you have ever seen Chisanda Mutti vs Lee Roy Murphy, but i can tell you now that is way better than Thomas Hearns vs Marvin Hagler. It had a Rocky 2 like finish and it was just a brawl from start to finish.

Thomas Hearns vs Marvin Hagler had 1 excellent round, the other 2 were all Marvin Hagler plus it was too short.

Kevin Kelley vs Troy Dorsey i just watched last night, and thats one of the best fights i've ever seen. I suggest you type it in on youtube then comeback and tell me that wasn't the FOTY.

Riddick Bowe vs Evander Holyfield 1 was a bit too one sided, and it wasn't as competitive or as good as Kevin Kelley vs Troy Dorsey.

Leonard Dorin vs Raul Balbi was the same aswell, fought at an unreal pace and it went 12 rounds instead of 10 like Arturo Gatti vs Micky Ward.

Marco Antonio Barrera vs Erik Morales 3 was too one sided, until the later rounds. And it didn't really get going until the later rounds. Juan Manuel Marquez vs Manny Pacquiao 1 was more dramatic IMO.

    I think Barrera-McKinney should have won 1996 FOTY over Tyson-Holyfield I.

I'm not really fussed about how long a fight goes, it's about how much I enjoy it for me. Haven't seen Muhammad v Johnson, only Lopez v Ayala so can't comment.

I have seen Mutti vs Murphy, & whilst it's a good fight, it just becomes too messy for my liking & doesn't have anywhere near the excitement of Hagler/Hagler for me. Also I hate the Rocky films, & at the end I thought they just collapsed from exhaustion & that it should have been counted as a slip, but hey that's just me. The fact that Hagler/Hearns was short doesn't bother me because they were all great rounds, & I don't think it's till the 3rd that you can say that it's an undisputed Hagler round.

    Haven't seen Kelley-Dorsey so again can't comment, although I didn't think Bowe-Holyfield was that one-sided & haven't seen Dorin-Balbi either.

I do think that MAB-EM III is a better fight than JMM-Pac 1. Although MAB dominates, I feel that JMM actually dominates the fight more, just happens those knockdowns affect the fight, but I feel the MAB-EM fight builds up the whole time, it just keeps getting better throughout, whilst I thought JMM took the rounds for the latter half of the fight

I forgot about that fight yes it easily should have, it was 10x times better than the overrated Evander Holyfield vs Mike Tyson 1 fight.

Maybe its because i wasn't brought up in the era of Thomas Hearns/Marvin Hagler, but i just don't see the fight as that special.

Yes it had a great 1st round but theres been plenty more dramatic and more exciting 1st rounds.

And after the 1st round it was all Marvin Hagler, i just didn't see the fight as that special and it was too short and it wasn't as dramatic as Chisanda Mutti vs Lee Roy Murphy.

Riddick Bowe vs Evander Holyfield 1 was pretty one sided, i don't mean it was Riddick Bowe all the way. Evander Holyfield did fight back often. But it was like 8 rounds to 4 including the knockdown which is a pretty clear cut win.

Kevin Kelley vs Troy Dorsey was a much better fight, it was closer and had over 2000 punches thrown. Go watch it on youtube now.

And i think the Raul Balbi vs Leonard Dorin 1 fight is on there aswell, and Matthew Saad Muhammad vs Marvin Johnson 1.

So go and watch all 3 of those fights whenever and then comeback and tell me what you think.

As for Juan Manuel Marquez vs Manny Pacquaio 1 i think the knockdowns just made it more dramatic for me, i feel this one is very debatable because Erik Morales vs Marco Antonio Barrera 3.

Had the amazing last 2 rounds, but i just feel it was a bit too one sided until the later rounds, and it never really got going until the later rounds.

Juan Manuel Marquez vs Manny Pacquiao 1 technically may of not had quite as much action, but i feel it was more dramatic especially when Juan Manuel Marquez comeback, then Manny Pacquiao made a little comeback.

And going into the 12th round it was anyone's fight. Which is what Erik Morales vs Marco Antonio Barrera 3 lacked.

I'm not much older than you Ice, & Hagler/Hearns was before I was born, but it's just all action from 2 of the best technical fighters of that decade. Neither was a slugger & that's why it's so good, the Mutti vs Murphy just developed into one of those sluggish punchfests which I know a lot of people like, but I tend to get a bit annoyed especially when the technique is poor. Don't get me wrong its a great fight, just not as good as Hagler/Hearns.

I don't really like watching fights on youtube, so if you've got any download links you could PM me, would be much appreciated.

I felt the drama of the MAB-EM fight had a bit more, especially with their history & Morales' attitude pre-fight. I would actually go as far to say it's my favourite of the trilogy, just because of everything it had behind it.

Seven minutes in hell? That was a 12 round fight jammed into 3 rounds. The one you replace it with is just a fluke ending, those guys just had no defense so it was trading all fight.
Gatti-Ward was one of the best fights of all time, you got to be fucking kidding with that. I also think the EM-MAB 3 was a better action fight than pac-jmm. Norton-Holmes is a good one, I think they just gave it to Ali for sentimental value.

Yes but wasn't Arturo Gatti vs Micky Ward just trading all night long, with no defense ? so i don't really get your point there.

Chisanda Mutti vs Lee Roy Murphy was a war from start to finish, with one of the most dramatic finishes of all time.

Thomas Hearns vs Marvin Hagler had one great round, and the other rounds were all Marvin Hagler. Thomas Hearns was basically done after the 1st round.

His legs were completely shot i just don't see the fight as that great, Charles Brewer vs Antwun Echols was a 3 round war like that, except it had much more drama and except for the premature stoppage. I rate that fight better than Thomas Hearns vs Marvin Hagler.

Leonard Dorin vs Raul Balbi 1 is just as good as Arturo Gatti vs Micky Ward 1, it has more workrate and more consistent action. Except for the great 9th round of Micky Ward vs Arturo Gatti 1.

Leonard Dorin vs Raul Balbi 1 IMO is a better fight, and it lasts longer aswell as it goes 12 rounds instead of 10 like Arturo Gatti vs Micky Ward 1.

Juan Manuel Marquez vs Manny Pacquiao 1/Marco Antonio Barrera vs Erik Morales 3, i can agree on but for me i just think the knockdowns made it more dramatic and i enjoy the fight more, but again thats just personal taste.

If you think only the 9th round of the Ward-Gatti 1 fight was good, I don't even wanna argue with your dumb ass anymore.

Who's arguing ? and why are you getting aggressive for ? i never said only the 9th round was good did i ? i said apart from the 9th round. Raul Balbi vs Leonard Dorin 1 is a better fight IMO.

Thats just my opinion i don't know why your getting angry for, i've seen both fights plenty of time and Leonard Dorin vs Raul Balbi 1.

Was fought at a higher pace and it had more consistent action, and i personally enjoyed it more.

Ward-Gatti I was unquestionably the fight of the year 2002.
