Given his superb performance against Ricky Hatton and given Miguel’s not-so-superb performance against Joshua Clottey, my initial reaction is that Manny will be a solid favorite to beat Cotto—maybe within the distance. Cotto will not like the variety of weapons Manny has in his considerable arsenal, including a strong jab, right hooks to the head, left hooks to the jaw, brutal uppercuts (remember Margorito), speed, and in-and-out movement the likes of which Cotto has never before gone up against. Cotto, on the other hand, will show Manny nothing he has not seen before. In some respects, this has the makings of a Pacquiao-Hatton repeat

I'm picking Pac to win, but Cotto not looking great against Clottey didn't surprise me. No one looks good against Clottey.

I could see Cotto getting tko'd but he'll make it competitive for 8-9 rounds. He won't be stupid like Hatton and rush in that's for sure; I think Cotto will make him come to him and try to counter; whether he can handle the speed and angles from Pac is entirely debatable. He dealt with Judah's speed ok but Judah didn't have as many weapons and he's a quitter anyways.

Annoying as he can be Roach is not too far off the mark in his recent predictions. All part of hyping the fight which is why in answer to another post one of the reasons this fight will pull in more viewers.

Just 'cause he says it don't make it so.....but then again.

It seems weird that Cotto has less backers then Hatton or De La Hoya did. I wonder when Pacman stops looking like Super Man and everyone tastes reality. I want Cotto to win and I think he has a lot better shot then most think. Still, he's open down the middle especially to the left hand and that is worrisome.

I think Cotto has a much better chance of beating Pac than ODH or Hatton did. However, it seems like many people are easily swayed by a fighters most recent performance (somewhat justifiably). ODH looked good against Forbes in some peoples eyes (not mine) and his previous fight had been a close-ish decision loss to the best P4P fighter in the sport. Hatton, while looking a little subpar versus Lazcano, had been impressive in his victory over Malignaggi. Cotto, disregarding the Jennings fight (which meant less than ODH - Forbes), has been knocked out and scraped out a decision many felt he did not deserve in two of his last three fights.

I understand that but even in losing to Margarito and getting by Clottey (which he certainly did imo) he has looked much more capable then Hatton ever did. Yeah Hatton jabbed more against Malignaggi but other then that Cotto is clearly the more multi talented fighter. In fact, he could have a more diverse bag of tricks then Pacquiao. I wouldn't be surprised to see him try to box and counter off the backfoot.

I cant believe how most people are writing Cotto off and making Manny favourite. You have to remember Cotto is a beast at welter and only looked bad in his last two fights because he was fighting guys with abnormaly strong chins and stamina. Manny may have a good chin and stamina at lower weights but he is in a whole new territory with Cotto.

Cotto is a prime welterweight Champ and a true P4Pder and has all the tools to be Manny. Hes fast, exellent timing, KO power, good technically & has a decent chin and the only advantage Pac has is speed. You cant use the Hoya & Hatton fights as a benchmark becuase they are nowhere near the level of Cotto or in there prime like Cot. Dont get me wrong Pacs one of my favourite fighters but imo id have Cotto as favourite.

    Cotto round 6 knockout

(Although AMir Khan would beat both handidly )

The problem with looking at the last few fights for someone is open to personal preference and favouritism.

Some will say Pac was just too good for Hatton and DLH, on the other hand some say they were not good enough and were overated. So you have one side saying Pac won because he was soo good and others slagging off the opposition making a nothing of his wins.

Then we have the last few Cotto fights, were most people are claiming that his opposition was higher so that was what made him look bad.( or at least not particularly good)

At the end of the day the one thing that will tell is the end result, whoever is left standing should get the kudos.......that is until we start using the weight argument again to suit the needs of whoever lost and then we go round again.

It should be a great fight, I think it's a 50-50 shot for either fighter. Both guys have had trouble taking power punches although it hasn't cost them too many losses.

I think Cotto is a savvy enough boxer to give Pacquiao problems, sure he's lacking in handspeed but he's good at timing his opponents, I think he will beat Manny, because the "best outcome" (really depends on who you are cheering for in this case) RARELY happens in boxing...I think Floyd Mayweather Jr. is ONLY looking at fighting Pacquiao and if Cotto was to win he wouldn't take that fight.

This is true. I think they're both at the elite level it's pretty much 50/50. I like both fighters so I won't be devastated if either wins. I'm am rooting for Cotto though because, like you mentioned, I want to see if Mayweather would accept a fight with him.

I heard somewhere that Cotto was making this his last fight win or lose. If it's true I'd like to see him go out on a win.

HAHA! That definitely WAS Saddoboxer! It must be killing him that he can't post on here when there is a major Pacquiao bout coming up. That makes me feel that much better...
