If I'm ever a professional boxer I am going to wear stockings like his.
He seems to have very nice natural power.
He has better skills, but he doesn't have the same blistering speed that allows PAcquiao to overcome his technical mistakes. This kid is a work in progress, but I think Marquez or Vazquez would eat him up... then again I wasn't that keen on Pacquiao until around the third Morales fight when he showed he could actually use his speed properly.
Pacquiao was a 16-year old flyweight, with a record of 13-1, with 5 KOs, and without a belt nor a title yet, after 14 pro fights.
That indicates that when Manny knocked people out with regularity, it was a little bit later in his career when compared to that of Marvin Sonsona's.
This by the way is by no means intended to mislead folks into thinking that Marvin is hereby being installed as the next... whatever, this is but purely a matter of "factoids for the curious", like me!
**********
I am thinking that the absence of a blistering hand speed in Marvin Sonsona's arsenal is mainly more of him being interested in delivering KO's than mixing it up, as his present professional record shows, 14-0, 12 by way of KO's. Add to this, the discipline and tenacity in the gym to enable him to deliver a high level cardio game come fight night, is at the moment non-existent.
Just as he was about to get out of the gate before the Lopez title fight, Marvin was loosely described as "a young man who likes to knock people out but hates to get hit", I believe that this depiction reinforces this speculation.
With his height and understandable reach advantage, having a 5'7" stature in that lower weight category, Marvin can afford to set his power shots with ease. He can load up and blast as he pleases.... but of course this is no longer a given, as his level of opposition will surely register a marked improvement from hereon!
He needs to keep a gym work at par with that of the elites if he aspires to be like one of them in the future. Physical attributes got him to this point.. however, it is by no means the end to all that hardwork and expect dividends to just pour in! If anything, it is just the beginning.... that is, if he intends to stay with an endurance at the top!
