why do the new york mets get such a bad rap stateside?

I realise their neighbours are a far superior outfit but the mets are hardly the worst team in the mlb!

Zelenoff - Hartley... I mean, it can't get better than this, so much has been posted online concerning that fight.

Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees (Yankees SUCK!)
Dallas Cowboys vs Washington Redskins (used to be a big one)
Pittsburgh Steelers vs Cleveland Browns (also used to be big)
UNC vs Duke in college basketball
UGA vs Florida in college football
FSU vs Miami in college football
OSU vs Michigan (I hate both of them)

    - West Ham/Millwall FC (English Football): Well, hooligans from both side and their rivalry is well documented, I've learnt recently by a few nice guys here that one was from irish and the other from scottish origins, a damn firce rivalry with roots deep into the celtic lands.

    - Boston Red Sox/Yankees (Baseball): The Curse of the Bambino, the Legend of Fenway Park vs the core of New-York, it is all here, pure hate breathing for the Steinbrenner family on one side vs accusation of jealousy on the other.

    - Auburn Tiger/ Alabama Crimson Tide (American University Football) voted second biggest sport rivalry by the sports illustrated, these two can't stand each others, it's all about how far from which stadium you're born and in Alabama, peoples sleep, breathe and die by the sword of their respective team, which side are you on, boy?

    - Boston Celtics/ L.A Lakers (Basketball) It's all about the East vs the West, The constant and relentless impact of Lary Bird vs the eternal wizardry of "Magic Johnson.
not sure if we get coverage of ice hockey in the UK? but i worked for an emigration company & the boss was canadian & in the office they had a massive poster of the canadians beating the americans in some competition? cant remember which one tho?
Was it the Americans or Russia? IF the American, probably during one of the world cups, if Russia, what they called "the series of the century" at the era of the Steel Curtain when Canada did beat Russia 4-3.
    was world cup, just remembered

Texas-OU is a big football rivalry

There was a construction worker building the new Yankee Stadium who put a David Ortiz jersey in the foundation....funny thing was when the jersey was in there Ortiz was slumping big time, they pulled it out and he started to clobber homeruns.

And here's some Magic & Bird for you

Regarding the west ham/millwall rivalry, im not sure about the celtic origins as West Ham have the ICF (inner city firm- staunch english with no great love for ANYTHING not english) and millwall have members of C18 (combat 18- Anti-everyone not british, especially coloured people and irish, regardless of colour). These people are in the minority of course but there are substantial numbers, most of which couldnt spell their own name
