Say what you want to say about Green, but he is the best option out of the available boxers. What makes him a compelling option is that he is an American who can punch. Ward and Dirrell are talented but are light punchers. Taylor may be past his best boxing days.
Miranda was taken to school by Ward and knocked out by Abraham. There is NO need for him in the tournament. Everyone can agree that Bute clearly deserves it the most, but he has a fight with Andrade in November which eliminates either of them as possibilities.
And on another note, Pavlik would eat Froch for dinner.
Green is by far the most appropriate choice as an alternate.
Firstly he wouldn't getting a 'bye' into the second round, the first 3 rounds are a league format, and Green would come in at a disadvantage having to start on 0 points with only two fights to qualify, rather than the others who had 3.
Secondly he's clearly the best available option to step in at short notice. Bute is going to fight Andrade, the likes of Pavlik and Williams already have their own career paths.
Finally, Green, unlike Bika is an American. If Taylor is unable to continue Showtime will need to bring in another American fighter to keep up the viewing figures. Green is known and has a name stateside, unlike Sakio Bika who is based in Australia. True he was on the Contender, but nobody has watched that since the first season so he won't have made many fans from that.
Miranda would be the best replacement.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
I'm with jdonaher1 , the winner of Bute vs. Andrade 2 deserves the most to be in there.
I don't understand why you think Bute and Andrade aren't available, either of them could fight from the second round without any problem, Kessler and Ward fight in November too ...
I quoted your post because I know you would prefer to see Bute in the tournament as well, but if Andrade will win the rematch then that's it, he would deserve more to be there... at least the Americans would have in the competition somebody who can bang.
Nobody fancy a Jeff Lacy-Peter Manfredo Jr. rematch box off then?![]()
But we're not replacing Dirrell we're replacing Taylor.
Allan Green can box a bit and has solid power...Miranda is one sided and he's well past his best which is sad since he's only 28.
I still think Miranda would beat Allan Green again but I really don't mind him as a Taylor replacement, he could be described as a poor man's Jermain Taylor anyways. Also, if it was Bute then what would they do for that 0 next to Taylor's score. Bute coming in would turn things on there head, Green isn't going to make many problems for anyone in this tournament. Did anyone see Green against Tarvis Simms?
I'd pick him to beat Carl Froch and that's about it.

Out of Green, Miranda and Bika, Miranda is the smallest and has had the most beatings, the other 2 have a genuine better chance.
Get Green and Bika to box each other for the right to get in the tournament, im sure someone else will pull out, Taylor hasnt yet pulled out but its nigh on a full gone conclusion that hes had it! The first round isnt over and thats 1 fighter already out, theres bound to be more pull outs.
If any of the boxers I mentioned had any sense, theyd be drumming up publicity right now to get in the tournament.
If JT opts to splitthe Bute-Andrade winner should be the replacement
Green is hot n cold & loves his kicks
Bika I could live with
Miranda already got owed by AA & schooled by Ward
The best replacement and the available replacements are two different things. Bute/Andrade winner is the BEST replacement. HBO has them tied up and they will not be allowed to enter a Showtime tournament. Bika is having other issues which is keeping him out.
That leaves two names, Allan Green and Edison Miranda. I see no reason why either one of these guys should be allowed to walk into this with out a 'box-off'. Green hasnt beaten anyone of name and has lost to Miranda. He is typically a boring fighter and most think he would get destroyed by the Super Six. Miranda lost twice to Abraham (one controversial in a hell of a war) and to Ward. Now Miranda has Joe Goossen in his corner and is trying to showcase his new talent. He beat his first opponent and looked very good. He may be fighting again on the Ward/Kessler undercard.
The overall consensus with Miranda was he needed a new trainer to advance his career. He finally left Bonilla after a miserable fight with Ward. If Joe Goossen can make the adjustments I think he will have a much better chance beating Abraham and Ward in a rematch. At least in Joe's eyes he thinks it can be done.
Showtime should insist on a Miranda/Green rematch. If Miranda cant beat Green then he has no reason to be in the Super Six. If Green cant revenge his only loss at 100% then he has no reason being in the tournament. Hey, you gotta take the best of who is available and to me, Edison Miranda and Allen Green are who we have to work with.
Id be cool with the Green-Miranda winner entering
Bute-Andrade winner would still be my 1st choice
Are they tied up to HBO after this fight
They could be ready to fight com Feb![]()
