American Soccer Fans
The Lamar Hunt US Open Championship game is next Tuesday, my team the Seattle Sounders take on the Columbus Crew. It starts at 10 pm EST at Qwest Field. So far there have been over 19,000 tickets sold which is pretty good for an MLS game on a Tuesday.

Sorry man, the MLS has given me 0 reason to watch...I've heard it's a better product these days, but the entire Southeast is without representation in this league.Originally Posted by killersheep

It has gotten a lot better and the viewership has increased by leaps and bounds. There are four teams that are actually profitable. As far as the south goes, Florida had two teams (Fusion and the Mutiny) but they both folded. St. Louis is on the short list to get an expansion team (AC St. Louis currently in the NASL) as well as Atlanta (Atlanta Silverbacks currently in the USL). Here's a map of the MLS and USL teams. As you can see there are a lot of USL D1 and D2 teams in your area. The Railhawks tend to do pretty well. As a matter of fact they are in the playoffs this week against Minnesota tonight and Saturday.

Montreal is in by 2011 or 2012, not sure, I'll sure then cheers even more for the Impact.

Definitely in 2012. This next season is only the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps (more close competition for my Sounders)
Do you know if the Impact are planning on getting a new stadium? From what I understand they already sell out their games pretty regularly.

The deal has been signed for the MLS and they have plan to upgrade the stadium, the Saputo here are remarkable business people, when they made the stadium, they did build it in function of eventually putting some new sections if they would need it. The Impact is quite popular here so far, especially as we don't have tons of sports club, let's see if the interest continues to drum it but I think that it's quite positive in the middle run.Definitely in 2012. The MLS is a much better product now. Overall its pretty good, but when LA plays NY its more talent than there's ever been on an MLS field, Donovan, Beckham, Henry, Rafa Marquez, Juan Pablo Angel.
And they should probably stay away from the south. Not sure we would support a team well enough. They're obviously going hard after the Pacific Northwest which is smart because they'll actually support their teams.

The biggest argument against having an MLS team in the south is that it would not get any support. For example Atlanta's team the Silverbacks are in a market of almost 3,535,000 and have an average attendance 2,400 in a declining trend. Whilst Montreal in a market of 1,600,000 have an average attendance of 11,300 in an increasing trend.
The Sounders are averaging over 36k a game (selling out most games) Which puts them on par with the average Premiere League, Bundesliga, and La Liga teams and near the top of Serie A

Well I'm hoping NC gets a team sooner rather than later, we've got good markets Charlotte, Raleigh/Durham, Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point and we're used to pretty decent college soccer what with having UNC, Wake, Duke, UNCG, etc.
Well hopefully it happens and when it does I'm jumping in and supporting them.
