As for who challenges Cotto at 154: Alvarez, maybe Cintron, maybe Vanes....but deffo not Angulo.
Mayorga can take a shot, Cotto takes a knee

Mayorga may just be the strongest fighter that Cotto will have ever faced and for once it will be Mayorga who is fresh off a relatively impressive KO and his opponent who has been out for over 9 months!

Mayorga will hit Cottos little chin harder than Pacquiao or Margarito did.

Cotto is not interested in fighting any more, he would see this as an easy pay day that sells itself, whereas Mayorga sees Cotto as a little wimp stepping stone on his way to millions against Pacquia

Im confident for Mayorga in this fight just because he has actually got some decent rounds in just before the fight. He wont have chance to get rusty or out of shape, he can only be better than he was in his last fight! I very much doubt that Cottos promoter would be very confident of pitting him against any middle weight, whereas Mayorga has just wobbled dropped and KO,d a fighter more impressively than Andy Lee a big up and coming Steward fighter could manage.

Feel free to see it that way but Cotto dominated Shane Mosley and unlike Mayorga he was able to last the distance. Ricardo won't even make weight and even if he does he's going to eat too many shots to last with Cotto.

As long as Mayorga doesn't load his gloves Cotto will take him. Its not like Ricardo has the handspeed of Pacquiao either.

Mayorga-Margarito should be made as they are both done as top tier fighters

Does Mayorga still smoke 60 cancer sticks a day?

The minute this fight gets a little bit hard, Mayorga will seek the easiest way out possible. I'll give him 5 rounds before he starts to look in big trouble.

If that doesn't happen, Cotto needs to knock the sport on the head.

The difference in their respective Mosley fights are that Ricardo forced the fight but was just not fit, hed been out a year and he wouldnt have been living like a monk inbetween

I can see Cotto taking Mayorga down with a devastating body shot. I like this matchup, it'll be interesting to see how Cotto deals with Mayorga's trash talk

Utter bollocks. Cotto/Mosley was quite a close fight in the end. Cotto spent the final rounds on the run. Again, this symbolises that Cotto has stamina issues and that a stronger fighter gets to him. Mosley fought the wrong fight early in that fight and should have been trying to rough Cotto up.

The Yuri fight was just weird.

    Cotto wins via TKO.
Cotto needs to box early make Mayorga come to him then in the mid rounds just bring it and get the TKO.

Again I think this is a good fight for him.
Some of you guys know how huge of Cotto fan I am.
But I think Sergio flat out beats him and outboxes him with possibly a late TKO.
Sergios style is just all wrong for Cotto.

I think Vanes starts off well but he's just not seasoned enough.
I've seen Vanes fight and train and to be quite honest he doesn't impress me.
I mean the kids got good speed and def. knows how to box BUT it takes a lot more then that to beat Cotto. I think Vanes should face someone like Bundrage or Powell.

Miles not being a wanka or anything but it doesnt take a genius to figure that out.
No fighter is ever the same after they've been in the kind of fights Cottos been in.

However Cotto still shows that when he decides to box he can.
He just has that live by the gun die by the gun style which made him more popular when he was coming up. I think that style get's the best of him and he just goes for it.

I have absolutely zero doubts that Cotto can beat Vanes, Kermit, Angulo and Alvarez.

Mayorgas chances are as good as you throwing a haymaker...
For anyone to think Mayorgas got a good chance. Is really stretching out this whole "Cottos done" or "Cottos on the decline" thing a bit too far.
To think that Mayorga stands a chance is just nonsense.
I'm not talking about a hayemaker shot.
I'm talking about some actually thinking Mayorga will win with a plan of boxing and getting either a decision or a TKO.

I'm a big fan of both Cotto and Mayorga. More so of Mayorga though.

And he most DEFINATELY stands a chance against Cotto. We all know Cotto has always been a cut below Oscar and Tito.

And Cotto ain't what he used to be.

Mayorga throws a good jab, good uppercuts, as well as his OVERHAND right.

Its easy and popular amongst some boxing schnobs to condescend and dismiss Mayorga, but the reality of this fight is that Mayorga has a very good shot of pressuring Cotto, and getting to him.

    Mayorga just KO'd a middleweight.

I expect a very good fight that could go either way.

    I'm happy for Mayorga !

    Wait...WHAT ?!

Lyle, you and I both know that Cotto won a razor-thin decision against Mosley that could have gone either way.

Cotto is no doubt the superior boxer to Mayorga but Cotto has holes in his defense and has been on the receiving end of two brutal beatings recently.

    Its anyones fight.

What?!? He dominated? He won by 1 round. I thought Shane should have got a draw, and you say dominated....lol.

Not sure this is a needed or a smart fight for a warrior like Cotto who has taken alot of damage and might....might have one or two biggies left in him. They aint all pitching nerf balls like Foreman and Ricardo is a nasty, huge physical free swinger...with shoulders and fists. Mayorga is a re-establish type guy frankly and Cotto should bide his limited time for bigger name last hoorah clashes.
