    Default Alvarez to fight Rhodes!

    fightnews.com

Rhodes has been named challenger for Alvarez, good on him!

Can Rhodes win? Not too sure on that one, he should have more success than Hatton though. Will be tough in Alvarez back yard.

I think Alvarez will have improved from the Hatton performance, he's young hungry and probably learning all the time.

Rhodes will be a natural light middle and is definitely better than Hatton. He'll nick a few rounds

I reckon Alvarez in his own back yard, improved from last time will win UD, possibly late stoppage in the mexican heat and depending on what shape Rhodes is in. Could be a cracker though.

    What's everyone else think?

I've been really impressed with Rhodes lately. Was excellent against Moore and Messi. Remember he has never lost at 154! This is a proper fight imo

Rhodes has had his ups and downs , however Alvarez was not top drawer against Hatton.
Ryan is harder to hit , and hits harder than Hatton , so you have to say its not impossible for this to be a close fight.
Alvarez may well continue to improve and go on to be a great , but i think he just isnt going to be up there with the very best. i mean p4p top ten , but at this time he is still a baby so who knows.

I think Rhodes will put up a decent fight. He'll go rounds and unlike Hatton I think he'll actually try and win. He never did anything with them but his best days are behind him. He's been winning of late but hasn't beaten any one worth mentioning. His last opponent was deplorable. The undefeated Brazilian who despite being 40 years old had only 11 career fights. Fighting someone like that is nothing but a waste of time. Anyway, I think Rhodes will be game. But I see him taking a beating and stopped around the 7th or 8th

    pretty harsh i think

rhodes is more than a worthy challenger, his win over moore stands out but he is in very good form

its also a little harsh suggesting matthew hatton didnt try and win

Rhodes can also punch and alvarez has been shaken up before

I never said he wasn't worthy. I think he will be game and go some rounds. But I can't see a guy who loss to Gary Lockett and who's best days are behind him winning this

And hugging every time your opponent gets close, going down on purpose from a glancing blow to get your opponent DQ'ed while occasionally throwing a wide hail punch ain't really trying to win. He was there to go 12. And that's it

I think Rhodes will make the 12 rounds, but he will lsoe clearly

He should never have been fighting at 160, i,e Gary Lockett, Lockett is naturally 20 pounds heavier than Rhodes. All Rhodes losses have been at 160, he is undefeated at 154

i dont agree on the hatton fight, hatton was coming forward throwing punches when ever he could, they werent having much affect but dit doesnt mean he wasnt trying

as far as i remember hatton went down twice, and both were late punches and both were 2 of alvarezes best punches of the fight, especially the second, it was probably the cleanest he caught hatton

Rhodes last fight was a charity dinner bill, it wasn't televised or for a title, basically a glorified sparring session mismatch.

AS for the Alvarez fight, Rhodes has a great chance if Alvarez fights as lackluster and flat-footed as he did against Hatton. Rhodes has some decent power, if he can shake Alvarez up early he might pull off the upset. Although more likely Alvarez will give Rhodes more credit than Hatton, so takes him out late as his age shows up.

You've got to ask yourself how good Rhodes would have been if he'd have been 100% there in his prime. He just seems to have had a resurgence over recent years, and deserves a shot at the title.

Alvarez would probably have the edge and really start to take over later on in the fight, but I reckon it'd definitely be competitive.

It's hard to add this one up. I look at Rhodes as an outstanding talent on the European stage and I see Alvarez as slightly overrated contender (WBC ) on the World stage... That possibly puts them on an even keel

I guess youth and aggression will prevail

Great fight to make thought. Good matchmaking too.
Rhodes gets his long over due shot and Alvarez gets a 1st defense at a credible opponent without going over the top.

Exactly. He's still a kid and he's still learning, but at world title level it's definitely an unforgiving learning curve. Rhodes should give him a test, but the general consensus is that Alvarez will prevail, and I imagine his handlers will be looking for him to go through two or three fights like this before throwing him at the really big dogs out there.

I think it will be a close fight with Alvarez winning a ud. Be intresting to see how Alvarez copes with the way Rhodes punches from different angles and along with his experience he could make it a hard nights work for Alvarez.
