I'm also quite surprised to hear that they are thinking about moving up a weight class. But I don't worry too much about his reach, it won't help him much in his in-boxing style.

Well this is true, Lemieux's style is as an inside fighter. What caught my eye about him originally was the comparison I could make with our very own Ricky Hatton. Both great inside fighters with devastating left hooks to the body followed by the lethal uppercut!

As long as he cuts the ring off and gets inside the jab then he will cause any fighter problems ( which he has shown to date very capabaly ). Once inside not many MW's will be able to handle the body/head combo punishment he can dish out.
I agree but I don't believe he should move up to SMW yet. He's got good fights at MW and he may be stronger than most MW's, but when he goes higher in weight, his power may more average, at least until his body fills out more. He should be angling for a fight with the Chavez Jr. v. Zbik winner.

Yea I totally agree, he should remain at this weight and consolidate his position on the World stage before attempting to move up.

Thing with him he has moved up comfortably from LMW to MW and made the transition seamlessly. The lad is obviously still growing, and just like Amir Khan, he could bulk out quite significantly in the next year or two. As ya mention though the question will come..... can he carry the power through to SMW?? Only time will tell.

If Rubio can keep his distance early and pop that jab..............meh why bother thinking about it? He can't do either of those things.

Lemieux early KO. Still, Rubio has some definite power if allowed to stand his ground, so it might be an interesting one although more likely a one sided blowout with Rubio trying to defend the way he did against Pavlik.

Should be a good main event, just like last week. Although, Lemiuex could KO Rubio early like Kofi Jantuah did to him a few years ago as CutmeMick mentioned.

Kinda hope Rubio tests him, maybe pulls the upset. Probably too shopworn and slow to do so though.

Lemiuex needs someone who can box and move to really test him. He'll blow out any B-level gate-keeper fighters who decide to stand and trade with him.

If Lemiuex keeps fighting like this he is going to get brutally KO'd by a counter-punch at some point in his career.

Rubio seems to be moving well too, he's got a good gameplan.

This is an eliminator? For which belt? Lemiuex is NOT ready for a title shot.

What an awful stoppage by the corner.

Either way, great win for Rubio. Gotta love seeing the aging underdog pull off the upset.

Lemieux being a poor sport there while Rubio gives him his props.

He got hit with a temple shot that dropped him (Lemieux was hurt but not dropped by a similar punch in the previous round when he got wild and was countered) and the corner threw in the towel in the follow up barrage.

Yeah, I agree. Rubio is never anything but pure class in both victory and defeat, it'd be nice to see him treated the same way.
