Hahaha, that's quite mental. But I don't want to be near touristy places or in cities. I hate all of that. Might as well just go to Seoul for a week. Those are some vicious looking women, but that guy most likely did something quite silly. Probably smashed a rice cooker or something.

For me it's more something like this, but without the gay arse music and blowing bubbles nonsense, but the problem is that I don't see any hunting for animals or close encounters with snakes and that is what a jungle adventure should have at its core. I also don't want to meet any western hippies as that would spoil my experience. I want something quite isolated and unique.

No, I'm having second thoughts about this jungle thing now. It would be better if I had someone to go with, to have some banter with, but alone is a bit sad and what if I got bitten by a snake and couldn't get help. I don't know, just trying to weigh things up in my mind. Maybe I should just stay home and read more books, but they are only going to inspire more fantasy ideas. I would probably read The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy and decide to build a spaceship or something.

Find a group of like minded people going where you want to go. Join a club, even an on line club that travels.

I would love to meet people who want to explore, that would be good. The wife would typically go, but she hates jungles. I don't blame her really.

Sleeping in a jungle is one of the most unnerving things I have ever done. You want to go to sleep and everything else is waking up. Creatures running around in the trees, bugs and reptiles crawling over you...worst few nights of sleep I ever got. I see this going horribly bad for you Miles. Wait till I get back from Afghanistan so I can mount the Saddo rescue team to come find you.

Miles will be like Bear Grylls (except for the coordination, general survival knowledge, and willingness to drink urine), roam around the jungle during the day offending the natives, back to the hotel at night.

Why don't you make a small effort in this direction first. Cook something on an outdoor stove. Maybe try and put up a tent?

My guess is that just doing those two activites will be enough for you to squash your jungle fantasy.

Also Ouma, by "I have spent a lot of time in jungles" claim, did you mean that for a weekend you mused on the idea of walking the Appalacian Trail bedore deciding that actually it was too much effort?

Yeah, but you get to do the seriously hardcore sleeping in the jungle. All this other stuff seems to be packaged and you can't actually do it properly. It's all papaya on a plate and hanging out with village kids.

I'm not sure if I can be bothered with it now.

This looks like a good place to start Miles.

    Fuck that.
Ive been on the edge of a few some 30 years back, surfing surfaris in Nias an island off Sumatra that type of thing and I would not walk in there of a night.Asia aside from tigers and other cats have baboon things salt water crocs near river mouths and snakes that all want to tear you a new one.

I walked out of the shade of just the beach one day to over look some paddy fields and was attacked by mosquitoes in a blink just from standing in the shade of a tree. Malaria is rife there and we slept in nets all the time in losmens off the ground on poles and took these bombs/big pills to stay immune and we wern't even right in the jungle bits.

Life is different out there its teaming where ever you go, in land or in the water I stupidly went for a swim one stinking hot day when there was no surf and got surrounded by baby sharks, little fins around me, I was totally shitting myself thinking their mummy or daddy cant be far away it was a long 2 minute swim and a wade across a reef that has stone fish.
Thank you God, thank you, Im a fool, .

It seems that the experience is only going to be proper if I do it with VanChild's, but all the stuff I'm looking at is gay shit like swinging down a rope to another tree. I mean, that's not exploring a jungle. That's like a jungle theme park. All too contrived and manufactured. Are these jungles even real anymore?

Just the shots you'll have to have should put you off.

How about a motorized canoe trip up the Amazon? nope scarey stuff remember Anaconda!!!!
Nah fly into southern Sumatra via Malaysia and get one up river to the center of Sumatra that would be much easier than south America or Africa animal wise.
