Default What happened to Kermit Cintron ?

He looked like he had a lot of ring rust in there last night against Molina.

Cintron was very passive and only started loading up late in the fight, his timing was off by a mile and Molina kept stepping in on him.

Where does Cintron go from here ?

Headlining FNF cards on ESPN I assume...

Just seems it is in his mind. He reminds me of zab judah, if he cant get you out of there pretty quick he starts to panic and fall apart.

He does seem to have some confidence problems, but he very intelligently outboxed Alfredo Angulo down the stretch for the victory not too long ago.

I seriously think he discovered in his time off the sport isn't for him anymore.

It wasn't ring rust, it was a lack of desire and determination.

Time for him to move onto his next life.

Power is great but he lacked knowing his range and his mental make up went limp when it got hot.

I think it was the result of a bunch of factors.

First, the ring-rust was obvious and I think that his team might have overtrained him in an attempt to compensate. Second, he's had trouble with high-volume pressure fighters in the past and Molina didn't give him room to breathe.

However, I think the two biggest things that worked against him last night was the perception of his opponent and his confidence. I really think he probably looked at Molina's record, his lack of power, and his lack of experience and expected the KO just to come to give. As a result, he constantly threw one-punch at a time, neglected his jab, and basically became an incredibly one-dimensional fighter. Then, when it became obvious that Molina was the real deal and that Cintron's timing was way off, I think his confidence, something he has always - and quite visibly - struggled with just disappeared.

Cintron has all the physical skills not just to be a "good fighter" but a great one! He has size, athletic ability, raw power, good technique...but mentally and emotionally he's very easily thrown off his game.

Some fighters get better when the pressure is on, some struggle when there is no pressure, and some struggle with pressure. The great ones always find a way to win, Cintron always seems to be looking for an excuse.

    Good analysis.

Cintron definately underestimated Molina, hell so did I. His record was not anything special on paper.

The guy has a good chin, good combos, and was smart to step in on Cintron and take away his power.

that wasn't it. This wasn't his panic and fall apart.

His punches were slow and had no zip from the first minute of the fight. He looked absolutely flat and his timing was horrible.

Did he leave everything in the gym? He sparred twice as much as normal because of fear of ring rust.

Did he come in way too low? Weighed in just over 149 on a fight with a contract weight of 152!

Did his reflexes begin to go at only 31?

    Combination of all of them.

I know a lot of people hadn't seen Molina before, but he's much better than his record. He should have Ws from his fights with JCC jr, but was flat out robbed both times. I've not seen his other two losses, but both were close & I've read from Doug Fischer that he was also robbed against Willingham. Not to mention that his last scrap with Lara was very damn close & he could easily have got the nod. I had a lot of faith that he'd beat Cintron if the judges didn't screw him. Just wish I'd actually got round to betting on it

Everything about Citron's demeanor says,"i don't want to be here". Boxing takes desire. I don't blame him, boxing is so demanding. I am sure with 4 kids he has to make a living but you have to be a Chad Dawson or an Andre Dirrell to lack desire and still compete on an elite level.

When you think about it, when was the last time Cintron had a great win over a top fighter?

Angulo comes to mind, but I wouldn't call it great, just saying, it's no big surprise that Kermit sucked, more often then not in big fights he does.

Exactly. I mean his whole welterweight ibf title thing was soft. Who did he ever beat. I'm not saying that he isn't talented but there was never any reason to expect greatness
