I suspect you disagree with Dempsey being in there, Dempsey is a controversial figure, no doubt his reign is clouded by many rumours of foreign objects, racisim and Dempsey's refusal to actually defend the title for 3 years after the Firpo fight. He was too busy spending up big, marrying actresses, making movies and fighting exhibitions when he could squeeze them into his hectic schedule. (Training was no longer a priority) He didn't fight black contender Harry Wills and this left a cloud, by the time of the Tunney fight Dempsey had lost that veil of invincibility that surrounded him. He lost to Tunney and was losing to Sharkey until another controversial win, he then lost to Tunney again this time with the long count.
I have Dempsey in my top 5 because of the myth and legend that surrounds his enigmatic career. He probably could've done a lot more with his career in boxing. Tunney was a skilled boxer and a fitness fanatic who trained and moulded his lighter frame into a worthy and under rated Heavyweight champion. By the time Dempsey fought Tunney the first time Jack Dempsey was not the fighter he once was, but being the Heavyweight Champion of the world took on a whole new perspective after his reign had ended.
From his fight with Willard to the end with Tunney, Jack Dempsey made certain that the Heavyweight Champion of the world was the biggest thing in world sports at the time.
