This is one of the annoying things sports fans do "why now", as if it would have been better at any time. If he said it directly after the fight it would have been an excuse in the eyes of fqns. If he said it before the fight happened fans would have said he was looking for a way out/scared.

Uhm I guess you missed the part where it said that golovkin offered him to wear those gloves and he would wear the backups.
