Ok I'll say it.......the guy was not that good and nowhere near the fighter he is touted to be because he beat a long in the tooth battle worn Arguello at the end of his career and out of his weight class. Some people think old farts like me exaggerate eras past, well Pryor is one of the most overrated fighters of the 20th century. The only big win on his lodge pole was done with Panama in his corner and a mysterious bottle. I can easily make the leap given what I saw and what followed in the Collins/Resto fight. So even his only claim to fame is tainted.
Brock Tommy only had about 10 ko's in 150 odd fights as an amateur. He was a pure boxer back then and never even discovered he could punch until he turned pro. Brought to full effect under Manny. Btw, he would have torn Pryor a new ass if they ever met as pro's.
I've actually seen threads at forums with people putting forth the notion that Leonard ducked this guy. Its ridiculous. Leonard was at 147 and already retired for close to a year before Pryors first dubious fight with Arguello. Pryor was not even on Ray's radar before he retired. In addition he had already fought Hearns, Benitez and Duran twice back to back so what would be so scarey about Aaron Pryor?
When he retired the second time after the Howard fight for three years he came back and fought Hagler. I must have missed the great Aaron Pryor.
