Warren drops Hatton legal action

Warren and Hatton worked together for several years before the split
Boxing promoter Frank Warren has dropped his legal action against former WBA welterweight champion Ricky Hatton and his father Ray.
He began the action last September when Hatton signed with rival promoter Dennis Hobson, claiming his deal with Warren's Sports Network had expired.

But a statement from Sports Network said it had "agreed to discontinue its action against Ray and Ricky Hatton".

It added that further discussions between the two sides are planned.

"(These) will hopefully form the basis of a working relationship at some stage in the future," the statement said.

Hatton's last fight for Warren was on 6 April 2005 when he notched a career-defining win over IBF light-welterweight king Kostya Tszyu.

The Manchester-based fighter's last two bouts have been promoted by Hobson.

He beat Carlos Maussa last November and stepped up to welterweight to beat Luis Collazo in May 2006.

Hatton relinquished his WBA welterweight title on Thursday, having given up the IBF light welterweight crown in April.

His next contest is set for 6 January, when he will attempt to regain the IBF light welterweight belt from current holder Juan Urango.
