So this is a nothing fight. Solis, as least, could have picked another fight to get back into the picture. Solis picking this fight is an indication that he can't get to the next level and is content with chasing shadows...
whats wrong with wanting to avenge a defeat though?
Nothing. For him it's personal vindication. But this fight, for fight fans, means nothing. It doesn't change anything for any one of them. Solis was supposed to win, and Thompson was supposed to remain a gatekeeper.

When Thompson beat David Price twice, he created another buzz for himself. Beating Solis, because of Solis's injury after his ko loss to Vitali, and fighting relative nobodies afterwards before he went on to lose to Thompson.

Thompson also went on to lose to Pulev and Takam- the loss to Takam put him back to where he was before he beat Price. Basically a gatekeeper...
