I agree with learning to move the feet first, that's definitely a priority. But in my opinion learning to punch ideally comes after developing the basics of footwork and being taught how to move the head using the legs and hips. Ahh!You think like my new coach!!! Everything starts with the feet...supposedly he was on the national team in his home country. The front foot is for balancing a lot of side to side and jumping in and out (pendulum)and straight snappy punches and short hooks coming from the front leg but first we must learn how to move our feet so we can do what he calls hitting with movement,or hitting while moving. Unlike my old coach who taught us first how to throw hooks falling backwards unto the rear leg and straight hard punches, countering and shifting all coming from the Back-foot.
