I would bet that he has less than 500 fans at the fight in Vegas this weekend. (Closer to 200!) So when people talk about this "Stadium Filler" with Kell Brook, that's not down to Khan. The vast majority of people that go to these Stadium fights are there because of the occasion . I'm not saying that's a bad thing , just not to get carried away with this "He's big in the UK" bullshit.
He probably did leave UK too early and should have built a bigger following.
I'm not sure it would've made a difference. The thing with Khan is that the minute he became pro at I think 17, he was high profile. I don't think there's ever been a connection with a set of fans. Without wanting to sound controversial, he will always have a big Muslim following, but they don't exactly go to support him in their droves. Apart from that, and maybe even BECAUSE of that, he won't build up any other fanbase.
It's a short career and you have to make the money you can , and I don't really knock him for that . My big problem is that he thinks he's great and he talks like he's a World beater , whereas the truth is , that he's decent , has good skills , but definite chin/reaction to heavy shot issues and his record is overrated. When he starts all this crap about "Hearn doesn't tell me what I earn , I call the shots!" , well actually , he's one punch away from being irrelevant.
If it was about self-belief, he'd be an ATG!
