And despite being only 6' tall, 3" shorter and slower than Clay, the very poorly skilled Chuvalo was able to land on Clay at will as soon as Clay remained in range.
Watch as if you were a critic not an admirer. It is one of many good examples of the complete absence of reflexes of even the young Clay.
Chuvalo was tough.
Chuvalo wasn't a great fighter by any means but he took the Ali fight on a few weeks notice and gave him a hell of a fight.
He was a rough customer who always came forward, he gave hell to a lot of slick boxers of the time like Patterson and Terrell.
He was supposed to get a shot at Ali in '64 after he beat DeJohn (another Angelo Dundee fighter) but he was so rough and savagely beat Dejohn so bad that Cus kept Ali away from him.
