Personally, I think the public was saved from a potential menace, as these little pony-tailed girls could've been mass murderers or even terrorists, out to poison mankind.

Freeze!! Put down the pitcher and back away from the stand!!

I think the girls got off easy. The cops could've asked:

1. Do you have the proper permitting to run a lemonade stand?
2. Do you have a spill prevention program?
3. Do you provide sufficient handicapped parking spaces for your business?
4. Are you in violation of any local labor laws?
5. Etc.
6. Etc.

Laws...

I think the next law to go into the books should be aimed at limiting the number of frivolous and needless laws, and stop wasting thousands of dollars of taxpayers' hard earned money.
All that being said, it just takes ONE time where someone buys a lemonade from two cute girls at a lemonade stand, and maybe there is some contaminant in the lemonade, maybe they used a dangerous ingredient by mistake, maybe the glass is contaminated with something harmful, ect ect, someone gets sick or even dies and then the shit hits the fan, lawsuits everywhere, the city probably gets sued for negligence for allowing unlicensed, ungoverned concession stands to operate under it's jurisdiction, ect.

... and of course you're right. That kind of incident could happen. But this is where a few rules of common sense... not laws... should take over.

1. There should be a responsible adult behind every neighborhood lemonade stand run by little boys and/or girls. A parent, maybe, or a relative. Someone responsible enough to ensure things are done properly.

2. In the outside chance a person should get sick or worse because of tainted lemonade... lawsuits should be aimed at those responsible... ergo... the responsible adult mentioned in Rule # 1. Suing the city is frivolous and pointless. Cities should not have to issue licenses to neighborhood lemonade stands.

Think of decades past. What was more iconic in suburban neighborhoods than the kiddy lemonade stand? If we're going to police those out of existence..... let's not stop there. Let's outlaw bake sales as well. You can poison people just as easily with a tainted cupcake as with a glass of lemonade.

Somewhere a line has to be drawn.
