Side note, what kind/level of fights in the UK can still be scored solely by the referee? In theory they have a much better view of the action than ringside judges, but obviously far to much room for corruption, and in a fight where the ref has his work cut out he may not get a clear read on the action is my impression.
Generally 4, 6 & 8 rounders with no title on the line are judged by the referee. It was only a few years ago that 10 round English title fights were judged by the referee but a few shocking decisions from referees made them change to having 3 judges.
