I take your point, Lyle, but a fanatic always thinks they were attacked first. Some Westerners see the 9/11 thing as a primary attck, jihadists think that was revenge for meddling in the middle east for oil money, westerners think that we did stuff in the middle east to help out the Jews who were nearly wiped out in WWII, muslims think we set up Israel to dump the Jews anywhere but our own countries, etc etc etc etc

This can be taken all the way back to the beginning of recorded history, literally.
