This move imo was and is strategic and premeditated. He knows that the weight is inconsequential. Alvarez will be the same weight he was in their first fight regardless of the scale-off. Even if Alvarez decides it would be at 155, his fight time weight will be the same and Floyd already beat that version with relative ease. I'd wager they don't announce it at 155 and leave it at 160. Floyd would simply weigh the same as he did in the first fight cause it makes no difference. Its all about appearances. Most casual fans will buy it hook, line and sinker.
Just spitballing, but what if his meet and greet tour isn't going so great and he decides to throw this out there to get the most he can now for #50 before the price drops any more. And what if he decides to try and get the winner (canelo) and preempt GGG's unification as a slight , there by feeding his own ego... He'd get 50 by beating a guy he already beat and get his money and retire again (drop the middleweight belt, not have to fight Golovkin).
It's funny. For someone who once claimed that judah "talked about it while, I (Floyd) be about it" , he's never STFU since he retired (and stopped being about it).
I'm sure the timing of this is all just coincidence like Khan chasing him the last two plus years. He might as well have just said he's challenging the winner. Can you imagine if Khan transformed and somehow pulled the rabbit out of his ass? "And the new lineal, Ring, Wbc middleweight champion of the world Amir Khan"
Floyds probably had this planned pre Berto.
I agree. Take 49 with a less than stellar opponent, go on an international press tour and try to make more fans and more haters that will pony up when you go for 50... Its not a bad plan unless the tour isn't fruitful and you just realize more people don't have the desire to know you for a fee than the number of people who forgot who you were... but now a kid you beat is fighting the entitled kid you never fought for right to lose the belt to guy everyone thinks is a better fighter than you because they're more exciting inside the ring and more humble outside the ring.
Khan as lineal would be hilarious ... "tell floyd he has to wear 30oz gloves, the ring has to be 12 feet... and he has to wait till im done fasting..."
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.
