Don't drink the Kool-Aid. How many Adam Lanza's were going into schools in the 1950s and blowing away 26 children, two teachers and the principal?

For me the media has nothing to do with this. There are an out-of-control number of psychotic Mass murderers over the past five or ten years going "postal"... remember that one?
How many people were killed in the fifties during the communist vs democracy era. How about civil war in the 1800's. Expansionism in the 1200 to 1700 and eras prior. I would argue much f the world is safer today.
