Well...I thought he was cut different from so many of the younger up and coming 'stars' today. Turns out in this most recent instance he's exactly the same and cannot express enough just how disappointing and frustrating it is as a fan. There is no doubt that Davis intentionally missed weight and knew full well he wasn't going to make the 135 prior to yesterday! This tactic has been going for years now but it's just blatant lately. Young star grabs their first intro belt and momentum...head gets inflated and starts fancying themselves as already well established and worthy of the very best and the biggest $. The trinket aka belt is merely transactional, and they game the system...drop the belt on the scale, blow weight, stay comfortable and have further advantages vs the somewhat 'name' opponent, factor in the small'ish fine to be recouped on future earnings in bigger name fights and purses. Only THIS time the right call was made and the fight was completely cancelled! Team Davis assumed they had worked out a catchweight with De Los Santos and more money but after rethinking the situation they declined the fight for safety concerns. They assumed De Los Santos would just be happy to be there, and it would go like so many other, oops. It's a nasty situation as it directly penalizes the fighter who did everything right and honored their professional contract. Not sure how the fine situation works out but even with no fight the same fine should be assessed on Keyshawn and De Los Santos be paid that at least. Keyshawn looks like an unprofessional fool and blows a major opportunity to fight in front of his hometown fans in a premium primetime slot. There are many negative things in boxing we fans just get sick and tired of...terrible judges and bad decisions, bigger names not facing big names but young fighters blowing weight and ripping up contracts they agreed to is right up there more and more. Especially ones calling themselves "The Businessman".
