Re: Pound for Pound for the 122 pounders and below
Everyone knows I am a Jhonny Gonzalez fan, so I am going to make my case for putting him on the top 10
EVEN THOUGH he lost to Vazquez (in a barn-burner where he scored 2 knockdowns and was ahead on the cards)
His previous 3 fights were against well-respected and dangerous fighters
10/29/05 vs Ratanachai Sor Vorapin - Jhonny was the underdog, but just schooled him and got a 7th round TKO
2/25/06 vs. Mark "too sharp" Johnson - Jhonny picked apart the slick Johnson and finally pummeling him into retirement in the 8th round
9/16/06 vs. Fernando Montiel - Jhonny was involved in a chess match with Fernando (who I also consider to be a great boxer) and eventually took a split decision
Upcoming fights
He is taking a quick tune-up fight in February
on 2/9/07 against Alex Baba
and on 3/17/07 will be defending the WBO title that he still holds against Gerry Penalosa
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.
