Interesting post Gyro and for all intents and purposes,I agree. Mayweather is a phenomenal talent,I am a huge fan of his skills BUT he is also,as he has stated on NUMEROUS occasions,a businessman. He fights for the most $$$..and usualy for the least risk. His career, from a very early stage as designed so that he could secure a fight with Oscar De La Hoya. Even after some of his fights at 135,he would mention Oscar and he made sure he stayed undefeated until he fought De La Hoya.
This can be seen from his fights at 140 and 147 where he most of his opponents were either old, unknown or coming off losses. ANYONE who disagrees with this notion, please by all means, disprove it. He beat Oscar and actually wanted a rematch with the guy he just beat, a part time fighter/promoter, WTF was that about? 147 is super hot right now and he was calling out Oscar again?!?
Anyway,Hatton beats JLC and now wants Floyd,I'll give Floyd credit for fighting him but it's a smart BUSINESS move. Hatton is less dangerous than Margarito,Cotto and Mosley. Mayweather knows he can beat Hatton, make big $$$ and its relatively low risk compared to the other guys calling him out. The only point I THINK I disagree with Gyro,is that Hatton is a good fighter and Floyd deserves credit for taking the fight.
HOWEVER,he would get more credit for cleaning out 147,I mean that would cement his legacy forever, and he would be a top 15 ATG imo.He was amazing at 130/135 but if you look at his resume at 140 and 147 it's been far from impressive. THAT'S why he has critics.
A win over Hatton would be impressive, but I still want him to fight the Cotto/Margarito/Mosley's etc. How the hell will he deny the winner of the WW tournament?
So,I agree with most of what have you said Gyro.Good posting,it was original, refreshing.
