100% AGREED .Why should he fight in the States when he can make more money where he is. If somebody offered yo a job overseas doing the ssame thing you are doing now for less money would you do it?

Maybe he will fight in Yankee stadium just so I can drive up and see him. Thanks Joe.LOL
When a basketball/baseball/hockey/football player starts nearing the end of his career, and he doesn't have a championship, what does he do?
He takes a pay cut and goes to the team that is most likely to win a championship! WHY? because at that point it isn't about money, it's about being a champion in everyones eyes, and getting that championship ring or cup.

This is the point in Calzaghe's career where he shouldn't be AS worried about money, and he should take the big name fights regardless of where they are. THEN he can be the champion he THINKS he is already.

You can't make the comparison that you made about someone offering you a job overseas for less money, simply because you're comparing two different classes of people. If you're referring to someone who has to raise a family, then no they wouldn't take a pay cut, AND travel overseas, it wouldn't make any sense.
But when you're referring to a world boxing champ who is on national TV, has fans and PLENTY of critics watching him, and should already have LOADS of money, you're in a completely different conversation.
So using that logic why should Calzaghe be the one expected to travel?
Apparently you completely missed the point? i don't know.. the point was that he needs to do what he needs to do to become this great champion that he feels he is. and if that is crossing seas then thats what he needs to do.

I don't know if you've followed sports in the past decade, but a few examples could be when Payton/Malone went to the Lakers to form a disgusting team in hopes to win the ring.. or when Ray Bourque went to the Avalanche in hopes to win the cup.. Junior Seau is now on the Pats, got injured last year but is coming back this year.. These guys took a huge pay cut so that they could be in the winning team.

You shouldn't sad click due to your own stupidity of not understanding what i was trying to say.. you should understand before disagreeing..

The logic is that regardless of Joe being the "Champ" and ideally, people should be coming to him to fight the champ.. my point was that instead he shouldn't be bitching and moaning about the money that Bhop wanted or the money that he won't be getting in certain fights.. instead he should be worrying about defeating the best, regardless...
I don't play cool clicks/sad clicks i leave that to the other boys. What makes you think I didn't understand you? I asked you a question.

You're being very naive making a comparison between FIGHTERS and people that PLAY sport for a living. And even more naive in believing it's not about or shouldn't be about MONEY!!!

But...I'll ask again in a slightly different way - if it isn't about the money, and only about the best fighting the best, and Hopkins has now said Calzaghe is the man he WANTS, why isn't Hopkins willing to take the fight in Britain?
First off, i'm not being naive about anything.. Boxing is a sport, and i understand that when it comes down to it in boxing, you're not on a team, and you're risking your life.. i understand the difference between boxing and other sports. but that does not even come CLOSE to meaning that people who play other sports are not in it for making money.. Watch sportscenter or something, i don't know, tons of players hold out before the season starts because they're not happy with there salary and want to get paid MORE. This is a business and it is completely about money, to certain/many athletes.
ALSO i said Calzaghe shouldn't be AS worried about the money.. meaning if he's not getting exactly as much as he wants to fight, hopkins for example, then it shouldn't matter as much now, so long as the fight happens. I did NOT say it shouldn't be about the money, which cancels out your whole, completely missing the mark 'naive' argument.. unless you're not quite sure what that words means..
BECAUSE you are being naive if you think because Hopkins said he wants Calzaghe, that Hopkins has to travel. Calzaghe should love the fact that he's fighting someone who will finally look GOOD on his resume. Hopkins is a boxing great already, he has proven he is an elite fighter, he does not need to continue fighting to prove anything. Calzaghe DOES, and if you read anymore of this thread there are plenty previous posts supporting this idea.
Calzaghe will have once again beaten up the other best man in his division if he beats Kessler and yet you suggest that Calzaghe in some way still needs Hopkins.

To be honest, beating Hopkins at what will be 43 years of age will not be beating an elite fighter. Hopkins looked seriously flawed against the chubby, slow Winky. I like Hopkins a lot, but seriously, Calzaghe would make him look his age.

Its a fight that wouldnt prove all that much to me. Some people are shooting into the sky with the whole Hopkins thing at the moment.
