I've never really rated Roach as a trainer. I agree with the first post..He doesn't always seem to be good for his fighters. I sometimes get that feeling about Emmanuel Steward as well. Naseem dipped in form under him and so has JT. Not a knock on either of their training skills but perhaps more a knock on their people skills? Like someone already mentioned if you have that bond with your trainer I think you'll see much better results. Maybe they just don't gel with everybody. Roach's biggest fighter is obviously Manny but I think he's lucky that Manny is quick and powerful because he lunges in a lot without much regard for defence.
A trainer I notice who's fighters do seem to improve when he is on board is Mayweather Sr. Love him or hate him, even though his claims of being ''the best trainer on the planet'' are very arrogant, he seems to get results. I'm interested to see how Joan Guzman does under him. He is the father and trainer (I don't care what Roger says, he jumped in when Floyd was already the man) of the Pound for Pound king. Oscar was obviously happy with him as well but circumstances changed which made it impossible for them to train together.
