He could be better and he has the potential to be bigger.

He has a bit of a personality problem but so did Tito at first. At least Cotto is working on it. He is learning english and getting a bit bolder on his interviews.

Like Tito, he is coming up in a great era for the 147lb division. Unlike Tito, there is no big name heavyweight stealing all the limelight like Tyson was doing to pretty much everyone under 200lbs.

He might be the best fighter in the best division of his time. Time will tell if this is true or not.

He has a bit more to go, he is not there just yet. I say this for two reasons. One, he has yet to be The Champ in any one division. Tito was The Champ at 147 and 154. Two, believe it or not, Cotto has yet to beat a defending champion. Both of his titles were vacant at the time he won them. This means he has yet to fight a champion. This might mean a lot to some and it might mean little to others but I think it is significant.

All that said, in a one to one, prime for prime welterweight fight, I don't think he could ever beat Tito. You could argue that he is an all around better boxer, he is more dynamic, he has not yet reached his prime, etc., etc. Bottom line, put these two guys in the ring together and I can only see one outcome and that is Tito by brutal KO in the mid to late rounds.
