No doubt Mick.Valdez was a monster.Nice topic and a chance to speak on some guys who sometimes get passed over.
I want to add Miguel "Happy" Lora at Bantam,Not a great but very respectable.Out of Columbia.I had first had the pleasure to see him against the superb Raul Perez Before a hiatus and then watched him make a comeback on USA Fights vs Gaby Canizales (WAR).
You know the kind of Fighter you see at the end of Career and then Play catch up on and feel you missed out on??He was one of those for me.Beat some top notch guys,W.Vasquez,A Davila,Minus,Zaragoza.Pretty smooth tactician.
Miguel Lora theres a name you don't hear often....
What a tough little fighter he was always gave it his all. 'Jibaro' Perez yet another name you don't hear often. I've had the pleasure of meeting him and talked to him about his career.
Spicoli you always bring up these names that don't get mentioned often names that I'm very familiar with...
I attribute alot to the Forum In L.A Mick.Ive never been but The fighters that have plied there trade and created great memories for fans can fill a phone book.It was the highlight on Monday nights throughout the 90's to tune in and listen to the stories told,(I got a late start as a fight fan 88 roughly, before that it was all about the oakland A's and Dodgers baby ).I was not lucky enough to catch a peak & prime Perez,The first time i had seen him was against Greg Richardson in 91' and that was painful.I'll never forget his fight with Genaro Hernandez in there second meet ...One of the most devastating body shots Ive seen.Pure class guy Hernandez insisted Perez wear his belt leaving the ring. Its important to keep these pure top notch fighters in the limelight and at the forefront.Sometimes s!!! gets real repetitive and we think the fight game revolves only around HBO Lol and we only see "The now".
Whats Perez like Mick. Not to sound like a total Fluffer but I'm envious of those opportunities,Delving into a fighter outside of the ring and peeling back the veil so to speak.
