The main character turn out to be the sheriff, not the man that originally found the money.

Man finds money, sees dead body and a dying one. Man feels guilty so he decides to come back to give some water to dying person. Man faces the chances of his choice for returning. Bad guys discovers that he has taken the man. The Bad guys searches for him, the main killer gets involves and hunts man with money down. The main killer stands for chances and faith. He'll flip a coin for your life, like he did to the old man in the gas station and the man's wife whom found the money. It was also just by chances he gets t-boned while driving from the wifes home after killing her. The man with money is hunted down by the bad guys, that guy gets killed. The main killer discovers the money in the apartment the man stayed in. Only by chance does the sheriff not notice at the time the main killer was in that same apartment when he was there after the man died.

Great movie, very different and worth rewatching to fully understand.

So what was the ending all about?

I watched it in work on nights with 5 other blokes and at the end we all looked at each other and knon of us had a clue of what had happend.
yea the ending takes a bit of brain power

how the killer walks away from getting t-boned while he was driving is a demonstration of what are the chances for that. the movie throws scenarios at you that you may not understand, but theres a point to them. The killer is the sign for faith or chances.

The sheriff while he was talking at the end, was the very confusing part. But he speaks of retiring and when he finally did. He realize he never took much chances therfor feeling empty i guess. I'll really need to rewatch it, its been away. The sheriff never really interested me in the whole movie so i didn't really pay attention to him.
