He was happy to get stiffed over money because it gave him a shot at the then big name in British boxing. His win gave him instant credibility and a huge fanbase, even attracting fans like me who had wanted Benn to take his head off when they fought. The Benn victory ended up earning him millions.

Carl Froch has had similar offers from Frank Warren to fight Calzaghe. If he really thought he could win he'd take any offer going for the same reasons Eubank agreed to fight Benn, or like Junior Witter is desperate to do against Hatton. They've all been turned down because Froch doesn't think he can win.
