Won my 3rd fight and have some questions regarding it.
Firstly, is it usual for me to be fighting outside of my category? For eg. I should be fighting now in 13-14 but found myself up against a 15 turning 16 yr old. My first 2 fights I had when I was 12 years old and in grade 7 and both of those in Michigan I fought people in grade 10, or 15-16 years old. I don't mind it, because just finding a fight is hard for me. I am tall 6' and weighed in for this fight at 152 lbs. I am thinking or guessing it is my size as to why I keep getting matched up out of my age category? Even so, the person I fought this last match was even taller, at 6'3" or 6'4" and had 5 or more pounds on me. It was the first fight I have seen this, and it did challenge me.
Moreso what challenged me this last fight were 2 things in particular. The first was I hurt my lower back quite badly on Friday night at my club doing one of the longest glove workouts I have EVER done. Not sure why we worked so hard, because my trainer said he wanted me to rest and go easy 2 days before. I never realized how much I hurt myself until yesterday morning when I woke and could hardly bend down to pick things up. No way I wasn't going to fight, so tried to relax and stretch lots before the fight, right. But then about 15-20 minutes before the fight, my trainer wanted to warm me up and had me doing glove work really hard once again ....and I felt this just sapped me of atleast my best round of energy. I'm still not sure why I got worked so hard up right until I stepped in the ring. Is this normal? I only wanted to reserve my energy and stretch properly. I've never question my new trainer up until now.
Anyways, I got a good win as best I could given my limited power and what seemed like complete lack of the ability to move like I normally would. Any time i tried to move to my right I either couldn't properly or it just fricken hurt. I also got caught some hard shots, harder then ever before as I just couldn't seem to get away quick enough.
my first split decision.
