I’m not hating on Floyd Mayweather Jnr, no way! (sorry to disappoint some of you). I wouldn't say I'm a Pac Fan in the sense I'm baised, yes I do like to watch Pacquiao but my opinion I'd like to think is not biased. (I'm not a fan of Diaz just for the record)
I’m in a fortunate position where my favourite fighter/boxer is in retirement. Although when we approach a fight, as the fight draws closer I will begin to lean towards one particular fighter.
Take for example Cotto v Margarito I like both and I have followed both very closely and I respect and appreciate both equally but as the fight draws closer I’m starting to lean towards Margarito as who I would like to win. Who do I think will win? I haven’t got a clue, it’s so tight, I could make good cases for both.
My theory is that Margarito could beat Cotto and Mayweather could beat Margarito and Cotto could beat Mayweather – styles make fights!
I’m just frustrated that people are getting sucked in, I don’t want boxing to become primarily a business, (some will suggest it already was and is). It’s a sport in which you want to be the best.
Can anyone in their right mind tell me that Cotto v Mayweather Jnr is not a worthy match up? Allthough I agree in terms of which will be the better fight to watch, most certianly Cotto v Margarito is the one - I really can't wait.
I suppose out of sheer frustration I’ve gotten a little carried away with my Pound for Pound comment but I hope you can see my point. I should have been more clear, in no way do I suggest beating Diaz is a good acomplishment, it would be average. I'm kind of saying whilst Barrera and Morales are no longer in their primes or even when Pacquiao fought them, the manner in which he beat them is a greater achievement (combined) then the De La Hoya v Mayweather fight in my opinion.
Let’s say in the next 18 months - 2 years Mayweather beats De La Hoya again and then beats a Contender type of fighter and Pacquiao goes on to beat Diaz and then unify the Lightweight division does he then deserve to be top P4P or does he then need to win a Light Welter title or is that still not enough?
The main difference between these two is that one will fight anybody to prove he’s the best and the other won’t or hasn’t so far.
I appreciate the above comment is probably not a criteria when determining the P4P list, but maybe it should be, I don’t know. I guess I’m just letting of steam.
I have no doubts that Mayweather will fight Cotto and/or Margarito, who he fights first will depend on the winner, but let’s say for instance that he doesn’t fight, if not both certainly one of these two, before he retires, then Mayweather Jnr will most definitely feel the wrath of The Wind!
That’s not hating on Mayweather but simply pointing out the reality, or am I missing something?
