Joe is currently 45-0. He hasn't given up his WBO title meaning that after he's fought Jones he can move back down and continue to defend it.
After Jones a win would put him at 46-0.
He would be just 3 fights away from Marciano's legendary all time record and 4 fights away from equalling Joe Luis for the most ever title defenses.
So if I was Joe my plan would be to fight Roy Jones, then take on Pavlik.
Now if he wins he'd be 48-0.
It would be stupid to retire at that point, it's like climbing Everest, getting 15 meters from the top and then saying 'That's high enough' and climbing back down.
If I was him I'd take the Jones and Pavlik fights to secure my legacy as a great fighter.
If I won them both I'd then fight 3 absolute stiffs, maybe give Manfredo a rematch before challenging Wayne Elcock and John Duddy or something just to break all records.
To retire undefeated at 47-0 just 3 fights away from breaking two of the most prestigious records in the sport is like pulling your racing car into the pits after leading on the final lap.
He must fight on, against bums just to get those wins and break those records imo.
Do it for Britain!![]()
