Nanaimo Boxing Club

In the news section of the site, I was pleased to see some information on the
Nanaimo Boxing Club in Nanaimo, BC, Canada concerning a May 2008 card.

The club was formed in 1971 and I was one of the co-founders.
It replaced an earlier club called the Newcastle Boxing Club
under the leadership of the late George Nepper, and trainer Harry Pollet
When the club was started in 1971 some of the initial gear was
donated by Mr. Nepper from the old club.

Over the years the club has changed locations a number of times.

Of interest, the first location was the result of a project in Ucluelet, BC
during the summer of '71 during the building and developing a seaside park called
He-Tin-Kis (but that's another story).

Of interest, the other co-founder and myself both had an opportunity to meet Muhammed Ali in Vancouver before the boxing club was formed.

It is great to see timely stories pro and amateur from various locations
around the Globe.
