I am 33 and my last Golden Gloves was in 2006. I won three Iowa State Golden Gloves titles and one of them I won after a 6 year layoff. I trained at home and had no sparring. I would make sure that you run 2 to 4 miles a couple times a week and then a couple of times a week do sprints to get ready for the burst of energy you will dispense in the ring. You never want condition to be a negative factor in the ring. That is the last place you want to tire out. You'll become a punching bag if your opponent is in great shape. As a beginner do not allow yourself to become undiscipline and engage into a sloppy street fight. Maintain your composure no matter what happens in the ring and always maintain complete focus on your opponent. Work on keeping your hands up as you hit the bag and shadow boxing is a must as it will simulate a person moving around in front of you. Without sparring I found that my timing was off but everything else was there. You still have a couple of years to fight with the senior amateur group so don't give up or rush yourself. Your last year you can enter a lot of tournaments. And to be actual, you can box amateur after 35 but it will be in tournaments that have older age group like Ringside Tournament. I'd like to hear how you do I am interested in boxing in all facets. I coach now and love training and training people. Let me know how you fair.
