Protein will help you repair your muscles and in theory assist in building them. Remember that muscle weighs more than fat, so no, you will not lose weight by using protein to turn your fat to muscle. But, if you're doing cardio to burn a solid amount of calories daily/every other day, then you can lose fat, build muscle, and drop excess weight.
