Sprints are far better then distance running for boxing cardio, if one had to choose imo. I specify boxing cardio because I think it both helps increase the gas tank and works on explosiveness which is also required. A marathoner might look at differently.

When at my peak in cardio, I feel it is largely due to sprinting, usually tabata with some hills mixed in. I still like to mix in a bit of distance running but moreso just to break the monotony as I find all running an extreme bore.
