I read somewhere that incorrectly mounting the drive could cause problems.

Mount a drive on a Windows Box? I'm not sure we are on the same page. Do you have a weblink or anything for this?

here's a pretty good link. All I can say is do a little research, look for some reviews, maybe see if there is a user group somewhere you can connect with.
