It's an old textbook. It is a bad idea if you're just trying to lose weight while doing a light workout, or not working out at all.

Actually, you can't clump protein shakes as equals. They are very different in value. Most of those shakes are induced with higher calories but there is a protein shake that is low in calories and high in protein. Take an isolate protein shake. When I was competing I would take these once or twice a day with skim milk and a good pharmaceutical grade multivitamin while eating two small meals a day. Separate all your intake(shakes/small meals) about 3 hours apart throughout the day. I cut down from 165 to 119 for my last competition. You'll still have enough energy to workout as hard as you want on this plan.
