Re: Pacquiao vs Morales III. Who wins it, how, & why?
The only way Morales can win against Pacman is to try outboxing him by continuously countering and earning points for the decision. Conditioning I think won't matter much as Larios fight has shown clearly, with Pacman outlasting the Mr. Conditioning himself! He should've learned never to engage Pac in an all-out war because Pac came out the winner in most exchanges. Pacman showed some new moves against Larios and also showed improved defense, getting hit lesser than in any of his previous fights. Surprisingly, he was counterpunching effectively this time - the mistake Larios made by making himself the aggressor. Another new move was his hit and turn tactic used very effectively, giving no chance for Larios to counter except his smile of approval.
His strategy against Larios basically was:
1) Lunging and 'reachin out' right hand jab to harass Larios and lure him into attacking so he can counter;
2) Hit and turn strategy;
3) Hit and retreat;
4) The so called 'stonewall' glove defense of Winky effectively blocked many shots;
5) Evading shots effectively when attacked and countering furiously afterwards;
6) Better movement to confuse the opponent;
7) Better head movement and other evading technics, resulting in his being hit less than before;
Some body shots but much lesser than in the Morales fight; and
9) His favorite 1-2-3 combinations when countering.
What I wanted him to do more:
I wanted him to try his uppercut, a good offensive weapon he didn't use much since knocking out Fahsan 3kBattery off the ground with it. I wanted him to set up his left straight more - a dedicated left straight that is his biggest punch, the one that knocked Barrera and Marquez down (he has recently been concentrating on his combinations that he forgot to set up his big left; combos take some steam out of a punch as it loses some momentum during the withdrawal phase because the fists have to be withdrawn immediately after every shot - the withdrawal motion of the fists takes some momentum from the shot). I also wanted him to use more left hooks, a dedicated one at that - ever since he developed his Manila Ice right hook, he seemed to have forgotten his left hook (remember, that's still his stronger hand), the one that knocked Lucero with one shot. And lastly, he should not let up on improving his defense, a move that can make or unmake him in the future because that is his biggest weakness. I think if he perfect his defensive moves, he will be unbeatable.
And so who do I think will win? As long as Pacman is well conditioned, he will win by KO because no matter what condition Erik will be in, he won't be able to cope with Pacmans furious assault for the entire 12 rounds, IMO.
Once in awhile, get outside in fresh air, take a deep breath & with a deep sigh, let out all the things that's bottled up inside you & be free, & you'll get a glimpse of nirvana.
